690II Adv v CM Storm Trooper

Hey guys,

I've been trying to decide on a new case for well over a month or so now, i've narrowed it down to 2 choices, the 690II Adv B&W and the CM Storm Trooper. I really cannot decide between them both, they are both fantastic. I'll be using a D14 for CPU cooling for now but I may get a custom watercooling loop later in the year after I go ivy.

Which do you guys think would be best?

Cheers!

Well, I'm gonna be honest... TROOPER

It's not the best for water cooling though, if that's important. For air cooling though it cant be beat imo.I don't know what the 690 can accommodate water so you'll have to watch toms review and find out.

In terms of looks I prefer cases that are more understated and with that being said I would personally go for the 690 II Adv out of the two, but looks are obviously subjective and looking at the features for both cases, the CM Storm Trooper wins that battle and it did win the "Best Case" award in the OC3D Best of 2011 Awards. Subjectively speaking I would go for the 690 II Adv, but looking at the options objectively the CM Storm Trooper would be the better choice.

I had a 690II adv and they are very good cases, watercooling wise you can fit a slim 240 in the top and a full size 240 in the bottom, it's a bit of a tight squeeze but it can be done, check out Tom's Snow Drift build from the gadget show last year.

The Strom Trooper is also a good case any you can fit a 360 rad in the front but you loose the all of the optical bays, see Zan's rig.

It is a hard choice because both are good cases but personally I would go with the 690II ADV but thats just because I like it better than the Trooper.

I've got a 690II in progress. I think it's easier (all be it with no 360 support) to watercool up than the HAF-X which is a monstrous case providing you've got the right components, I'm not using push/pull on the bottom rad like Tom did and I've not hit that many issues with fitting but I have dropped the front fan to a 120mm.

It's pretty much horses for courses though between the two, and is probably going to come down to your own feelings about appearance and where you want the project to go. I doubt you'll be unhappy with either.

After watching Toms 690II build, I think i'm going to go with that because I would like to be able to cool both CPU and GPU sometime in the future (providing the cooling to my CPU beats the D14 even with the slimmer rad if i only cool the CPU with it). Plus the size of the 690 is more convenient for me. The extra optical slots will also be handy to fit a fan controller along with the dvd drive and res.

Thanks for the help guys!

wise choice.. i've got wo old school 690. on WC the 690 is a beast. i'm loosing all the

hdrive and most of the opti for front rad space on the 690 for two side intake rads

breathing from the side panels. but i am looking into the fractal arc midi for an air case.
