Hi

Im thinking of upgrading to a 660Ti, im also planning to get a third monitor in order to use surround with 3 1080p displays. I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to have a 660Ti with 3GB of VRAM over one with 2GB. The cards im looking at are the EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti FTW+ 3GB w/Backplate, or the MSI 660Ti TF 3GD5/OC. The card im running at the minute is a Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 1GB. Some of the games im planning to play in this config are Max Payne 3, Crysis 2/3, BF3, Skyrim, Dirt Showdown ext.

Thanks

The more ram the better usually. Depending on the price difference really, if its only an extra £10 for the 3GB version then go with that. If its and extra £100 it wouldn't be worth it.

For surround gaming 3gb should give you better performance than 2gb, but the 660ti wont be able to play crysis 3 or bf3 on such a resolution at high settings or high fps, as it's just not powerful enough, no matter how much ram it has.
I'd look at a 7950 instead

The RAM won't make much difference tbh, since you'll be down to medium settings on most games to get decent frame rates, so the RAM won't really be use fully I don't think.

You need to be thinking of a 7950 or a 4gb 670, or 3gb 660ti as a temporary solution really - and be thinking of adding a second as soon as possible.

Hi edschofield15,
Welcome to the forum.
I just recently built my first system (Dec.2012) and I wish I would have taken the advice I was given by some very knowledgeable members here about video cards.
As dalewaklin and others here have said a 7970 or a 7950 would be your best choice for a 3 monitor setup.

TBH none of the cards mentioned will play the games across 3 screens.

a 680 with a maxed at crysis 3 at 1920x1080 gets 35fps.....

Youd need a 680 minimum for 3 screens IMHO

AA will also bump up the memory usage don't forget (if you do decide to go the big-screen route)

Hi Tom,
I'm pretty sure your referring to a 680 4gb right? I thought the 7970 would have been a better choice because of the 384 bit memory interface , correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still learning too .

1 or 2 x 680 2gb is fine because they don't have the grunt or mem bus to need 4gb.

But yes, 7970 would spank 680 @ 3x1080

In fact, 2 7950s spank 680 SLI at that res for significantly less money.
