Here is my problem i seem to be missing 2 cores on my 5960X.Now the rig runs fine, but everything from Task Manager to Intel own processor test show 6 cores 12 threads. Motherboard is a Rampage V Extreme Bios version 1302. Out of all the forums out there, i though i would come here for advice. Thank you fellas. :D

First thing that comes into mind is: Have you checked if any of the cpu socket pins are bent or broken off? Might need a loop to check.

Ok, any chance 2 of the cores are disabled in the bios?

I updated the bios to 1401 a minute ago, everything is at default. Still showing me 6 cores 12 threads even in a Cinebench run. My old score back in October shows 8 core 16 threads.

Hmm....In the UEFI it shows all 8 cores are enabled, also in device manager it shows all 16 Logical Cores.

do you have boot.ini set to use all cores/memory?

in run type msconfig.exe

under boot tab

select os, and click advanced

select maximum number of cpu cores to 16 or w/e

reboot.

if it doesnt work, what is perfmon showing, any cores parked?

Could you change the task manager cpu graph to show logical processors?

Im just wondering if there is a software/driver conflict?

As Post #7

Navigate: Run>msconfig>boot tab>Advance options.

See if it is allowed to run all cores. Or alternatively tick the number of processors option and select 16.

Good News (sort of) is i have the original C drive for a back up. Booted off that drive, and everything from aid64 to task manager shows all 8 cores 16 Logical Processors. So it is a software/driver conflict.

did you get around to checking msconfig?

Here you go. Things that make ya go hmmm..... Easy way out would be to clone original Drive, but then i would never find the culprit. So tempting.

that's a really strange one, since it worked with a different os it would lead me to believe it is either driver(only if you had a different cpu in [with same os] before) or its just kernel not having it.

what happens in safemode?

Tried it in safe mode, and got the same thing. I then ran sfc scannow, and came up with corrupted files( but was unable to fix) . So i took the easy way out,and re-cloned the original C drive. All is well now. Thank you all for the help, appreciate it so much.
