Is it possible to Xfire a 5870 with a 5870 eyefinity 6 card without the use of modding or special drivers?

Reason i want to is because i would like the extra 2gb of ram from the eyefinity card without spending bid bucks.

Well the eyefinity 6 5870 are expensive. Why not think about grabbing a couple 6950. The 6950 already has 2gb of memory, plus they are cheaper than eyefinity 6 cards.

the eyefinity 6 cards are actually cheaper than the regular 5870s now, there is a bunch no newegg around $270. most of the other regular 5870s start at that price and go up. and i do not want a 6xxx series card because i like my 5870 and want to xfire it. you can not xfire a 5870 with a 6970.

They should be compatible for crossfire, same gpu. I did a little searching, and have found quite a bit of people who xfired an eyefinity 6 card with a regular one no problem.

the main reason i want to know is because they both use different drivers. it would be nice to have 3gb of video memory.

The crossfire does not enable "shared" memory between the cards. It will be 2 GPU's but only as 2GB. And yes I think it will work, aslong as you have the same GPU's fired.

There's no difference between the GPU's, only the RAM size and connections. I think you'll be perfectly fine with that, without the need of additional drivers etc..

Edit: Additional info and so on..: CF/SLI - Youtube

As stated in the video, your 5870 does work with 5870 E6.
