500GB Momentus XT RAID 0 vs Smart Reponse

dude first off seriously do ya need that big of a font. secondly whether it rains or shines makes no difference. (

) thirdly any ssd will blow away the xt's raided or not. they simply have a small cache (4bg) for helping frequently used programs. I'd go 60Gb ssd for opsys and then use the mechanical for storage and games and stuff. The IRST is decent enough if you wanted to use it then do it. But keep in mind the ssd alone will rock ur opsys. By using IRST you may encounter what some do in as the drives opo in and out between boots. Simple reboot normally recovers it. Or redoing the IRST application. I have ran XT's in raid and they were nice but ssd's win hands down. Now if your just looking to boost performance a tad then XT it bro. This way you have 1TB and no worries about where to install stuff at. But if you want blazing fast opsys loading and loading of certain programs (installed on ssd) then get the vertex 3 (or other brand ) of sata 6GB/sec ssd.

So you would recommend the Vertex 3 60GB + mechanical drive running in SRT??

Also, which mechanical drive? I need 1TB+

I have heard the Caviar Black is REALLY noisy.

One of my friends has one.

I really don't want to just run with a SSD for boot and mechanical drive for storage because imo it's a waste...

So SRT or XT's in RAID 0

which is cheaper route??? I'd imagine the IRST would be fastest

hope ya took my joke above in the spirit it was intended P was just funnin with ya

oh and I have 4 WD Blacks in RAID 0 and none of them are noisey at all. I guess it depends on how its mounted in the case my case has excellent hdd mounting. But I would say WD Black any and every day

Yes, I had a laugh myself

The XT's in RAID 0 had pretty much the same performance an SSD on it's own. The SRT does have less performance than a single SSD.

They cost around the same. Vertex 3 + Cav Black = $139 + $85 = $224. RAID 0 = 2x $119 = $238

then I'd go ssd hdd with IRST this way if you decide later to try ssd alone with hdd for storage you have that option onep for ya
