4x1gb...

Hey all,

Just installed Vista Ultimate 64 and it uses around 1gb at idle which is 50% of my current 2gb setup. I currently have 2x1gb of the following:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-072-OC

Now my first thought was just to order another 2 sticks and since they are on a special deal this week this seems so tempting. Then I have other people telling me 4x1gb doesnt run very well and 2x2gb is much better.

Now I know 4x1gb puts more strain on the memory controller but I dont overclock my memory heavily so would I see any benefit selling my current set and buying 2x2gb. I just see this as a hassle, is it really worth while?

Thanks, Sam

I don`t know this for certain, but from my pov I look at it like this.

4x1g sold as a specified kit will work great, maybe with a little mch voltage added.

2x1g+2x1g (the extra 2x1g costing £24!! ) although not considered ideal, I would try. Add the mch like I would with a 4x1g kit, and if necessary lower the timings a little. But £24 is a steal.

((erm normally I`d say give it a few days of messing about - and if it truly didn`t work acceptably, I`d return them and buy a 2x2g... but ur buying from overclockers.. I`d be tempted to email them saying EXACTLY what your intending to do and WILL IT WORK.. then if it doesn`t it`s 100% down to them :P ))

2x2g, if I`m buying new, would be the way I would go for a new machine.

Well, the thing is overclocking 4 sticks will be harder than having 2 like you mentioned ... however if you are not planning to overclock them heavily or anything in that sort and you'll save money on 4 sticks, then i would go with that ...

Thanks for the advice guys, I have ordered another 2x1gb set as above and will let you know how I get on.
