4790k SLI question

I have an Asus Maximus VII hero with a 4790k cpu and I am trying to figure out if I am able to run SLI in 8x 8x mode and still use the lowest pcie slot for an Asus wireless card. Will that put me over the 16 lane support of my cpu or does a wireless card work differently than a GPU?

Rig:
Maximus VII hero
Intel 4790K
32 GB GSkill Areas 2133 RAM
Plextor 128 GB M.2 (not a pcie card, it's native on the board)
4X Kingston V300 240 GB ssds in raid 0
1 tb WD black hdd
gtx 970 Strix currently (looking to get 2 980s if it works)
EVGA supernova g2 750 watt gold
and the Asus PCE- AC68 DB wireless card

I might be wrong but populating the lowest slot would change the layout to 8/4/4

This ^^^ is correct, if you populate more than 1 PCI-E slot, it will go from x16 to x8, unless you populate the top and bottom (black) slot, as this is hardwired x4, but the top slot will still be in x8 eg as below;

x16 - 0 - 0
x8 - x8 - 0
x8 - 0 - x4
x8 - x4 - x4

Above is basically what you will get with the different possible card slot combinations, hope this answers your question.

So I am already running at 8x 8x because of that pci wireless card :/
I can use the native internet controller, but I hate how long it takes to identify and connect to my network. Is there a way to speed that process up, maybe disabling some of its security or something?

Yes there is ways to change the order of recignition and loadup in windows of the devices and apps, but you are best leaving the network controller until one of the last to load up so as your antivirus and malware checkers etc are loaded up and initialised prior to the net connection becoming active.
