Trying to pack up smoking at the moment and need a major incentive so.....

I have a 470 that clocks to 850 aftermarket cooled.

I game at 1920 by 1080. Is a 3GB 580 gonna be much of a jump (I'm thinking also future proof)

Was thinking of the GB SOC that TTL reviewed.

CPU is 4.1Ghz Q9650.

Either new GP or new mobo combo. Not sure which would yield best results.

You will see a significant increase in performance if you go for the Gigabyte Super Overclocked version. However, as far as I know, the Gigabyte Super Overclocked card does not come in a 3GB variant. I play at 1920 x 1200 and the 1.5GB has been enough for every game I have played, including metro 2033, crysis 2 and BF3. Since you play at 1920 x 1080, I think 1.5GB would be more than enough.

The Gigabyte 580 Soc is sutch a good card. If new cards wasnt on the way, then i would get 2 or 3 of those. And like Yassarikhan says, you will see a big jump in performance. The 580Soc even beats the 6990 in a few tests

If you're in the market for a 3GB, Gigabyte does have a GTX 580 with 3GB. EVGA also has a 3GB version as well that you can take a look at.

Like yassarikan786 and Azurite mentioned, Gigabyte's SOC version will be more than enough to handle 1080P on all current games.
