3x landscape or 5x portrait?

For my next pc I am planning to go all out on everything and wanted some advice on monitors. I want to go big! But I am going to do as much research as possible first before investing hundreds.

I want to do some multi monitor gaming this time around, I am thinking of a couple ideas

1) 3x 3D monitors in landscape. These need to be fairly good quality as I work in photoshop and do vray rendering, so I don't want my colours to be off!

2) 5x 3d monitors in portrait. Again, need to be good quality but also need to be ips monitors to get good viewing angles because of them being in portrait mode.

3) the above but non 3d if it isn't that much better

I tried 3d at gadget show live and did really appreciate it to be honest, but wanted to see what it was like in real world situations. If anybody has good reviews on monitors in these set ups that would be good. Not too interested in graphical performance reviews about the gfx cards as I won't he getting any of these gen cards.

Or is there anywhere people know of where I can test these kind of set ups out?

Cheers!

keep this in mind when you decide the more monitors the card has to use the hotter the card will run as it has to send info to all of them . I'd go 3 in landscape mode if it were me

Well I was planning to go sli, do you mean that the more monitors plugged into the one card makes that one card hotter? Or generally the whole lot?

Higher resolution will make the whole array of GPUs hotter, the amount of monitors will be miniscule. Heat is nothing to worry about on any modern card at stock with a fan

Cool. Well I was going to water cool all the cards I had anyway. Either 3 or 4 I reckon, will have to wait for kepler.

But back to my question, does anyone know anywhere I can also test these systems out? Is there a pimping pc world with an awesome set up? Haha

You'd have to go to a tech festival or along those lines, nowhere would be expecting customers to buy five monitor eyefinity when most of their systems on sale can barely power 1080p

Yeah I was thinking some kind of tech festival, but I don't know of any coming up. I also thought of any friendly members with set ups in the midlands...

I didn't want to go for a projector, colours won't be good enough and I wanted wide gaming for the peripheral vision not just big.

I just need to see big 3d first, because then I think I will go for 5 dell ips monitors if it isn't great.

Stores might have some more extravagant demos on display in the run up to christmas, mind you

Projector screens are so wide you need to move your head, believe me you'll get the peripheral vision ahah, the res isn't 1080p btw though, get higher.

I want a aspect ratio of at least 21:9 though I am afraid. Not just BIG

Plus like I said, colours aren't good enough.

Is there any tech festivals coming up? Want to finalise this by february, so still have a bunch of time. But I am bored waiting for info on SNB-E lol

No I probably can't, my friend's dad works in special effects for movies, so he spends a lot on projectors, I didn't catch the name of it though. Only played Bad Company 2, GRID and a few other games, along with Avatar, but it blew me away. The colours were stunning as well

People tend to write off projectors, but some are quite amazing.

Bloody expensive though, and 5 IPS monitors would be around the price of 1 projector.

It would probably be pretty awesome, but I don't think the pros would out weigh the cons to be honest.

Just want to test 3D again!

I'd opt for the panels, you can't go wrong really
