3D Monitors / TV's cause eyestrain?

I've noticed there have been loads of warnings over eyestrain, headaches and damage to your eyes after long periods of using 3d tv's

Mainly because of the way current displays work.

There are also loads of articles regarding new holographic technology.

It sounds like they are hoping to have it all together by the end of 2012

Some experts say current 3d tv's are not suitable for children as they could cause longterm damage

Who Could Have Guessed: 3D Hurts Your Eyes

A study funded by Samsung and discussed in the Journal of Vision may have found the reason why so many individuals experience eye strain while watching 3D content. According to the article, problems arise when our eyes are asked to simultaneously focus on the screen while simultaneously adjusting to the distance of the content.

What do you guys think?

Have you ever had headaches or experienced eyestrain after periods of watching 3dtv or playing games with 3d monitors?

My TV does 2D to 3D and I play/have played a few games using it (BF3 looks awesome) and I don't get a headache or anything like that, it doesn't effect my eyes any worse than 2D either.

I don't know if native 3D is any different in terms of the effects it has on you but as far as 2D to 3D goes it doesn't have any more of an affect on me than watching in 2D.

I need to get a Bluray drive so I can watch some movies in native 3D though because I still haven't seen anything in native 3D just 2D to 3D.

EDIT Forgot to say as well that it may differ from person to person, some may feel the effects of it more than others and some may not be effected at all.

Exactly what Sieb said, It differs from person to person.

It does not affect me in anyway for short or long periods of time, if movies in cinema's have 3D as an option, i will always watch them in 3D. Same thing goes with games aswell.

But saying that i know a few people who cant stand 3D for longer than 10 minutes as it caused them eye strain and a slight pulsing headache

I enjoy 3D content, its brings a whole different experience to the way movies and games are seen. I hope over the next few years we start to see more of it

3D rarely gives me a headache anymore, it does take getting used to. If you play on a monitor with bad ghosting you're going to get a headache a lot quicker as well.

I get eyestrain almost immediately when i watch games and movies in 3D vision (not as much in movies because they've eliminated almost all of the ghosting, since most of the ghosting comes from the rendering of the game and not the monitor), but not when i'm using red-cyan glasses and the glasses they use in the cinema.

The TV I have now is the first 3D experience I have had so I can't compare it to other TVs/monitors.

I have also only used the 2D to 3D conversion mode so I can't really comment on native 3D either but as far as the 2D to 3D goes it's pretty good but it's not perfect. Watching things or playing games in native 3D is supposed to be a lot better.

Someone who has experience with playing and watching things in native 3D might be able to help you more than I can.

I have never been that impressed by 3D displays to be honest. It looks like a series of flat layers to me rather than 3D.

Holographic displays on the other hand look amazing, they produce an almost perfect reproduction of the light field rather than tricking your brain like current 3D displays. I was lucky enough to have a play with some prototypes thanks to some of my colleagues working on them in my lab.

They are going to have the looks of a CRT and an insane price tag to start with though :S

Yea it seems to me that 3d is still in its infancy, but I haven't decided whether that means it's bad or not yet. Sounds like I'm going to be unlikely to get a holographic anytime soon!

I've done some relying here

I have a 3d samsung tv and recently bought captain america 3d blueray and thought the 3d was amazing for that looks like a hologram but using the 2d to 3d conversion never impressed me

I find the crosstalk gives me eyestrain so that I can play for no more than hour with 3D, I think 3Dv2 would really help but the monitors are way too pricey for me.

As for the holographic TV, it looks awesome! 2012 though, really? This wont be affordable to most people for years yet. To be honest though, I think I'll always prefer normal 2D over holographs and 3D.

3D will slowy become a feature in almost every tv just like led is in many tv's you see in stores and online. My next monitor will be 3D as i enjoy 3D content as much as 2D content.

It would be awesome to see 27" OLED 3D monitors for gamng and movies although they will put a massive hole in many people's pockets when they are released
