3570k vs 2500k

Hi, my friend asked me recently about getting a new rig and he was on a budget of 250 pounds, he spent 50 on the ram (8gb 1600mhz) and is going to spend about 90 on the motherboard (MSI Z77A-G43) i have already advised him to get the i5 3570k and wait to get it over getting a lower 3470 so i can overclock it for me, but then i though about getting the 2500k as it is cheaper and can still be overclocked.
he already has a graphics card (gtx 650) but will be upgrading later to something better.
He intends to use the rig to render video's partialy but also for gaming. i7 is to expensive as he is having to wait further to get the 3570k, so would it make any real difference to get the 3570k over the 2500k.
Spec:
MOBO: MSI Z77A-G43
Ram: corsair vengance 8gb 1600mhz (2x4gb)
cpu cooler: (undecided) probably XIGMATEK Dark Knight night hawk.
GPU: gtx 650 (to be upgraded eventually)
Thanks for any help/advice

nothing wrong with the 2500k. but depends on price diff, if not much in it may as well get newer hardware

There is no real difference between them, you will score slightly higher in benchmarks but that is about it. Not worth getting a 3570k if you already have a 2500k. If you are buying new though, you should be able to get them for around the same price so you might as well get the 3570k, unless you can get the 2500k cheaper.

I agree. Now is not the best time to be buying a new CPU with Haswell dropping June 4. And even then, I'd wait for TTL to review a good amount of motherboards.

just done the exact same thing for a friend,
he killed his mobo with the hoover (feel bad cos i was the one giving him hassle about the state of his PC)
he had an first gen i5 and woulda cost bout the same to upgrade instead of repairing so i got him a 2550k ( i know but it was only £110 brand new (oem)) and a fatal1ty prformance board.
i got a 3570k and i struggle to see the difference.
