Is it wise to upgrade to 64 bit vista? I currently have a 32 bit sp1 vista...

is there any performance that I will notice on 64 bit?

current spec.

dfi lanparty X38 t2r

4 gig ram

Yes you should as you have 4gb of ram, I seen no reall performance gains that I can notice, but have had no trouble running 64bit pretty much all app's and programs no support it so go for it.

Thanks dude... Question about your rig... Since the core I7 don't have a fsb does the 1:1 ratio would matter or it doesn't apply on core I7. Bye the way, what voltage you running your ram?

I went from running 2GB on 32bit Home Premium to running 4GB on 64bit Home Premium and noticed a difference.

It was just much snappier overall.

As for driver support, I haven't had any problems. It has come on leaps and bounds from its earlier days.

Edit: Didn't mean to quote myself.. Meant to edit

Core i7? *lost*

He says he has got an x38 motherboard. Only way to get an i7 cpu in there is with a hammer...

And I'd say yes, go for the 64bit Vista if you have 4GB. Make sure to check all your components are x64 compatible though, some companies release drivers for it that do not or barely work *cough*Abit*cough*.

EDIT: ah, after rereading another two times I finally understand your post... Must be the holidays occupying my head. For i7 clocking and memory multipliers I would take a look at this post on Xtremesystems: *clickie*

How about file transfer do you notice any performance gain? Anybody?

I have multiple HDD, 5 to be exact and do a lot of file transfer from hd to another and has a speed of 56mb/s to 70mb/s the most and I do have sata II

running ram @1.64v this is about the max recommended by intel

fairly new to the I7 myself, but there is no ratios anymore something to do with a memory multiplier I just set the speed in bios to match my ram and away I went

Biggest thing to make sure of, is that all the things u want to plug into ur PC and all the software u want to use in windows will work with 64bit.

Those things that might not - u have to weigh up against replacing over changing 32->64.

If u got no issues with the above, go right ahead imo.

o.k. one last Question my friends.... I have a windows xp 64 bit and a vista 64 bit (currently have a 4gig readyboost 200/180 speed, if that would enhance anything) on your opinion what would be the best to use (both have SP1)..

by the way, do you guys know any program that would find a driver and install it for you. I'm using drivermax and it make my life easier. Those driver that its hard to find and update drivermax can get it and its free but the thing is it doesn't support 64 bit yet. they say hopefully by next year....

It's hard to say for u as I wont be the one seeking drivers etc.

But I'd take Vista 64bit over XP 64bit without question.
