3.6KW anybody?

As some of you may have noticed, the OC3D PSU testing procedure has been revised to include an extra test which pushes a PSU as high as it can go before switching off. PSU Overclocking if you will :)

However, for PSU's rated at 1.5KW the existing OC3D load tester would have been at its maximum capacity trying to test anything much higher. So i got this little gem off ebay:

She was a little shabby to start with so I proceeded to take her apart, give her a good clean up and have a general poke around inside.

While I wasn't looking my daughter managed to scavange some spare bits from my toolbox to make a 'Robot'...

All clean, booted up, and giving a PSU hell...

Equipment needed a new home. Under my desk was a bit crowded...

So yeah, with both of the units piggy-backed off each other that gives us a total testing capacity of 3.6KW. I'll probably never need it, but at least now no PSU will ever get the better of the OC3D load tester ;)

Jim.

That's huuuggge.

Kill those PSU's, kill them. :)

Weights a jeffin tonne too. If anybody knows where i might be able to pick up a flat platform with wheels on I'd be interested to hear.

...and yes the PSU's will die. Thermatake's 1.5kw is coming back in for a 2nd round soon. Will it run at 2kw..we'll soon find out :p

Time to kick some PSU ass :D

Would love to see how far the thermaltake 1.5kw units can go before turning belly up.

Think the Jim robot actually kicks-ass, definite avatar fodder for some1. Perhaps lacking a little gif animation.

On the other side, I just know that ur going to mount this in atleast a mobile rack unit with a good safety earthing, all suitably tested ofc :p I did notice the breakers on the sockets, I'm sure those are tested also.

Terrific revamp job on the unit.

I feel sorry for any PSU that goes anywhere near you, they really aren't going to have a pleasant life.

Make sure you get some video's of popping psus :)

Sweet Jimbo, when you showed me that piccy and told me what bit was I was like "WTF 3.6KW!!"

The Robot is the best thing ever - glad you got a pic o f it, awesomeness :D
