3.0C SL6WK-Malay @ 4ghz on air!

hehe..

OCUK will not take it back Axer, just sell it on second hand, someone will definitely want it, the 3.0c is a great chip for the money.

Nothing special about my cooling, just plain old air and the Intel heatsink. It's the most impressive chip I have ever seen. I think I will Mach II it shortly - however I have not got a GT coming my way personally for another 3 or 4 weeks. I've sold out..

Whats the "droop mod" dude?

the droop mod is to stabilise the Vcore of you p4c800E i am talking about

when setting 1.6 ie in the bios your board under load undervolts....by a lot...

if i set my bios to 1.585 i get 1.616 idle and 1.52 load...that gives me bad stability when overclocking + if i want to run my cpu no more than 1.75V...after doing the mod...then i know under load and idle the vcore will remain the same thus i get higher clocks as well :)

LOL

to be honest, i was confused with your post at first.

yes i am getting many viagra e mails :p...

but to be honest...i know i can do volt mods...i just have to find the time to do them...i got the gear too..low wattage soldering iron etc...

gonna practice on a dead pcb first a bit cos this time i aint using any smd grabbers ;)

sounds really complicated for me im not that much of a "hands on" person tho, i have already encountered the instability on the voltage side of my mobo which has cuased numerous ammounts of problems running this chip anything above 3.45ghz (tho i know it can do more)

Is there anyway i could get some else to do the mod for me? I live in Essex, about 15mins drive from Lakeside shopping centre and about 30-40mins dirve from bluewater, any1 local? :P

@ Phil, cheers fo the info mate, didnt think they would take it back, so ill try my luck selling it second hand, whats a good price to ask for you think?

OMG im a n00b, i just checked my box and the version i have us a "SL6WK" so why cant i get 3.8ghz on air? :P

Hi there I am in Basildon, I soon shall be getting an Asus and I'll be modding it.

ah excellent, basildon is just a few mins away, i live in Stanford-le-Hope, well Corringham to be more excact

excellent thanks a lot mate!

on a side note, why has a £140 board which is made for overclocking got such a silly problem?

How exactly do u carry out this mod as im looking at buying one of the p4 chips and maybe this motherboard .

Is there a guide to carry out the soldering on the board.

That does look pretty hard and fiddily ,

Would anyone care in doing this mod for me when I get my board.

Aslo does this interfare with the voltage settings on the bios as there has been a resister added , does this still show the correct voltage?

I believe it volts .6 or so higher, readable in Bios but not the same as the value you select. There have been reports regarding the bios reading not being entirely accurate before and after the mod too.

Really if you do not own a voltmeter or are uncomfortable doing it then just avoid it. There have been conflicting reports about its effectiveness at giving larger overclocks anyhow.

I might do this mod in the week if I have time so I will report back.

yeah please do ferret, im thinking im gonna have to do this mod, or cotemplate a diff mobo, voltages are so unstable atm, for example, if i run prime95 and then try to run winamp, winamp crashes i think the reason for this because my voltage gets low wen prime is running. As if i run for example warcraft 3 with winamp its fine, or if i have two games such as warcraft 3, Battlefield 1942, winamp and some browser windows open once again there is no issue.

Also if i get above 3.45ghz wen the CPU is used in a becnhamrk or something the system reboots itself, this sound about right for voltage instability? this is at 1.6v on my SL6WK, if i run it at lower volts it doesnt seem stable either - bit bizarre as i think phill said his 3.0C runs at 3.8ghz on stock volts !

Have you tried running it at 1.7v? Or is the temp too high? You might find with the Asus board you get more stability with volts under 1.6 or 1.7+

i did try it with 1.7+ and i think it was stable (tho i cant remember - it was hot tho) and under 1.6 it seems to do weird things, really weird :P phil, lend me your mobo for a wek :P i wanna see wot it can do on that ;)
