I have an Asus A8N5X and already 2x512MB Patriot memory. I was wondering if i should get another 2x512 or just take out the current 2x512 and put in 2x1GB?
Nice. But im gonna be getting around June. I'm leaning toward the 2x1GB just because i think that it will be better and just dont wanna risk it not working with the motherboard.
I've been using 4 x 512mb running at 2T for about 3/4 of a year now. It's made a difference on some games/apps but I haven't used 2 x 1gb so can't compare. However, I ordered 2 x 1gb last week and expecting to use and see the difference later this week.
Apparently the difference in speed is around 3-5% and the amount of power it uses is very little., However, I'd dispute that and think 4 sticks will generate more heat than 2 sticks (hence why I bought some 1gb sticks while they were cheap - Crucial: £33 del)
I bought the extra set of ram when they were going cheap (at the time)
2x1gb as it will run @ 1T whereas 4x512mb will run @ 2T = better performace, less heat and less power useage + more of a chance of a stable oc (depending what ram u get).
Personally I would too. Depending on u`r mobo (I have no experience of the one u have) some act great/ok with 4 sticks of the same memory - until u push em.
If u were a desktop user, I`d stick 4 sticks in there. (and bag the 1Gs for mehself )
