iv never looked at 2 screen setups before. But recently i have seen alot of people use more than one screen and have come around to the idea of owning a second monitor.

I currently own an LG Flatron W2261VP 22" widescreen monitor and love it for my games. But im no fan of non-fullscreen mode as i always manage to clicke the non game parts and inadvertantly minimise the game. So i was wondering, Is it possible to hook up a second monitor to display only my desktop with msn/skype/web brower on and whats the process of moving between hte two screens. ???

Some games you can pause and they will stay open while you use msn, some wont its just luck of the draw. I have 3 screens and multi task on them, I only ever game on the center one. Ultramon is a great app to use for the screens and getting extended task bars ect.

Be warned once you go multi screen youll NEVER go back..... :D

I went from 2 to 1 again, so mythbusted!

The app Tom gave you is win though!

Yeah i already have it downloaded and saved in my apps folder for the arrival of my second screen.

On the subject of a second screen im going to match my one in terms of aspect ratio 1920x1080 (1080p) 22". But is there really any stand out models that really cant be missed. is LED worth a go or is it not optimised yet ?

This is pretty much identical to the issue I was having. I give a lot of support to people with PCs and Alienwares in particular. Due to that I have a lot of contacts on MSN and Skype. Problem was I would load up a game and forget the time and how long I had been playing for, only to close the game and have a few windows open saying "dude, you there?" - user is offline.

I didn't want to use an entire monitor to solve this so had a couple of choices. The first one was something that resembled the screen on a till in a supermarket. Was a small green screen device that hooked through USB and displayed anything you may have missed whilst gaming with a beep.. At that point it would display what was being said on the small screen. I can't for the life of me recall what it was called but it was about £50.

In the end I got the Silverstone MFP51 which does the same thing with plugins. It also displays new emails ETC. Both ideas were pretty good but yeah, nothing is going to beat having a seperate monitor or five and doing it that way :D

Also, which Logitech board was it that offers something very similar? has a nice little screen dead center at the top that can do the same sort of thing?

i see where ur comming from m8 but i want the full desktop support so i can see msn/skype/net and also all my hardware apps and widgets. if it not possible to display the desktop at the same time as a game then i dont know but im sureit is just switching across is the bit that take effort.

i've also run 2 monitors but gone back to one, mainly because my dad had to use the second monitor, and i just havent set it up again ;D

but it sure was nice tough

I used to have 3 tft's and had to drop down to 2 and I really miss it. I struggle to use computers with just 1 screen now as I have so many things open at a time

I dropped from 2 to 1 a while ago, I don't really notice the difference now, generally I just attach the windows to the sides of the screen which makes everything so much easier!

Almost no game will allow full screen and for you to see your desktop on the other screen. In terms of productivity and what not though it makes a huge difference. I've been using dual screen since Nvidia beta 180s came out (Nov 08), and triple screen with the 5970. When you're in game you do lose the other screens, but at all other times (i.e. surfing the net, using word, having an extra screen or two with outlook, itunes, msn and skype makes a huge difference.

Try to match the res if you can (and the same size), but that's not the most important thing in the world.

It makes a huge difference. It also makes moving on to someone else's pc/ working for a company awful. I brought a monitor in last job I worked to dual screen.

+1 on that

used to have 2 17" monitors before i got the 22" one and i constantly say to myself

"wish i still have them 17" monitors" or "i need more screens for this"

when you have 2 screens you dont even realise how much you use them till they are gone :/
