2Gb Upgrade Choice

I am thinking about upgrading my RAM to 2Gb, my current set up is 1Gb Gskill LE 4400 (TCCD) can anybody recommend some really good RAM that suits my motherboard (see Sig) would BH5 be a better choice?

go for the gskill stuff - then again you can't go wrong with any cas3 pc4000 stuff or cas2 pc3200/3500 from corsair, OCZ or gskill.

apparantly crucial have withdrawn all 1gb sticks :(

I have heard this also. Taking the 2Gb Balistix off the market and only doing RMA's, think it's on here somewhere actually lol.

I am a big fan of the 2GB GSKill stix Fatty purchased (the cheaper of their offering in performance "GB sets) - same cips as everyone else just a much more appealing price for great performance.

Be mindful that there is a big performance hit if the timings are above CAS2.5.

Example:

Fatty can do 255Mhz @ 2.5-2-3-5 overall system performance is better than 285Mhz @ 3-4-4-8 - something to consider when deciding, especially if your using a multiplier restricted CPU (Anything but FX CPU) and your max overclock using the max multiplier is more like 285Mhz.

I am not convinced that 2GB is required just yet - I am holding out for 2GB that does 250mhz 2-2-2-5 :)

lol that it? i`m waiting for 2GB 265MHz at 1.5-2-2-0! :p

By the time ddr500/ddr600 1GB stick manufacturing gets up to the required standard for cas 2 or cas1.5 or thereabouts, I doubt there will be any DDR1 platforms around as we'll all be in ddr2 land.

Still, does it really matter? Does the use of memory dividers on the A64 make much of a difference? as in running your memory with 300Mhz FSB, but 250Mhz mem clock is not all that much worse than running at 1:1 at 300? I guess it depends on latency ja?

yeah, then again for benching you are unlikely to be using high latency 1GB sticks anyway, but will be using cas1.5 512MB stuff.

in all honesty the only reason why I need 2GB now is for photo-editing (well, i don't really), and BF2 ;)

Right i've got rid of my PQI memory into a friends PC who was having with their generic PC3200 and as my PQI is fine at stock timings and speeds they went in and made a happy person and a stable machine.

So I now have 4*512MB generic PC3200 running at 188FSB 2T (CPU @ 2.5GHz 10*250 166 divider) and its a lot quicker and smoother than running my old system @ 2.6GHz with memory @ 216 2-5-2-2. Games like NFS:MW and GT Legends are so much smoother and quicker to load.

I've been looking at this as well and during my findings the best seem to be either the G.Skill PC4000 HZ or the Corsair TwinX2048-4000PT. Both around £150 mark. I will probably be going for the corsair.

I don't think timings are that important on A64 for everyday running but 1T over 2T is important. For benching obviously its different and prob some nice 2*256MB BH5 or TCCD is best for that
