2600k overclock

i have a feeling tom is gonna come in here and say how easy SB overclocking is

anyways right now im running prime @ 45X multi 1.35V (1.3 in cpu-z) been going good hoping to get to 4.7 or 4.8 (who knows maybe ill get to 5Ghz at low volts)

my temps are about at 65ish

heres my settings (shoulda took a pic but this is what i remember)

45X multi

100BCLK

1.8125 PLL

load line calibration on high

VRM frequency @ 350

Phase Control Extreme

CPU current capability 130%

speedstep C1E C3 C6 all disabled

Ram @ 1.65v 1600mhz 9-9-9-24

what do you guys think?

should i leave speedstep on?

what are max safe volts? i think i read somewhere that intel suggests maximum of 1.38v

anyways any advice would help

EDITE: now at 4.7GHz @ 1.38v, everythings looking good so far

I haven't messed around with PLL or CPU Current capability or VRM freq I just leave those at default but I set LLC to Very High and also have Duty control set to extreme. Also with speedstep and turbo boost disabled you get a constant 4.7ghz or what ever you are running it also helps with stability.

I got my 2500k to 4.7ghz @ 1.38v but couldn't get it 100% stable, it would run fine for days at a time and then i'd just get the odd BSOD here and there out of the blue, no pun intended. I'm now running at 1.35v @ 4.5ghz.

1.38v is what Intel says is the safe limit but SB hasn't been out long enough to tell how much further they can be pushed. I would like to know if it's safe to go above 1.38v for a 24/7 oc myself because i would run at 4.7ghz @ ~1.40v

right now im at 1.38 @ 4.7GHz temps get a bit high though, one core hit 81 the rest were 77ish

ill try lowering it a bit to see whats my lowest stable for 4.7ghz then ill go from there

I only got highs of 57c when I ran at 4.7ghz @ 1.38v. Are you in the UK or somewhere hot?

EDIT: Just remembered you only have the Hyper 212+

I keep thinking everyone has a D14 for some reason.

LMFAO ill get one soon!

EDIT: oh and i think i set Duty Control to T.Probe

my temps dropped by 8C after adding 2 extra fans to the XL, highest core is at 73C right now

this makes me a happy camper

started getting some blue screens always get a 0x00000124 error

happened when running a large game (like gta4) or the blend test on prime95

my cpu would run small fft test fine for hours

probably have to up the voltage to 1.4ish

its at 1.38v 4.7Ghz now and if i go even a little lower small fft fails

my puny 212+ probably cant handle 1.4v but from what i know you never get it to max temps unless you run prime small ffts anyways

what do you guys think?

i guess ill just revert to stock tomorrow and run blend just to rule out hardware problems (first thought it was bad ram cause blend test uses lots of ram)

any suggestions/help will be appreciated

I get that at 4.7ghz it could run fine for days at a time but every now and then I get blue screens and i don't really want to go above 1.38v in case it does any damage.

Personally I would keep it under 1.40v for a 24/7 overclock try dropping down to 4.6ghz to play it safe, also summer is coming and it is getting hotter so that could be causing your temps to rise and causing it to overheat. GTA4 is CPU intensive so it will be putting it under high load.

yea maybe ill just backdown whats 100mhz anyways

EDIT: dropped it down to 4.6 failed blend after about 7 mins

EDIT2: went to stock everything seems dandy, seems like my luck with the silicon lottery wasnt so good :/

EDIT3: set llc to ulra high and my voltages in cpu seem to be closer to what i set it to in the bios bios = 1.38 cpuz= 1.368 (before it said about 1.33) maybe this cause it to be unstable... im at 1.38 4.5ghz now

4.6ghz testing now

did 2 hours blend @ 4.5 and 1 hours 1/2 of small fft all good

1.38v llc ultra high

EDIT: 1.38v 4.6GHz my pc just shut of after almost an hour of blend no bsod just turned off and reset itself

Sounds like overheating if it's just resetting.

gonna try 4.5GHz at 1.35v like before i do like these sub 70 temps

lowered current capability to 120% to see if it helps

moved my hdd fan on the xl to the sidepanel for more airflow
biggrin.gif
lets see if it still overheats

found out my ram timing 9-9-9-24 instead of 9-9-9-27 ill see if that has any effect

EDIT:

set everything to default cpu stock and ram by default was set to 1333 9-9-9-24-1T 1.65ish volts

ran blend...everything fine (duh!)

set ram to 1600Mhz 9-9-9-27-1T (right spec) ran blend and computer froze up after 10 mins (with a loud sound and its 4am lmfao)

seems like my 1600Mhz ram doesnt wanna run at 1600MHz
sad.gif

EDIT2

even with VCCIO @ 1.15 1600mhz 9-9-9-27 no good
sad.gif
trying until 1.2 (max safe for 24/7)

EDIT3

6AM
sleep.gif
put vccio 1.2 still not working i got wannabe 1600mhz ram oh well

so i think the timings were suppose to be 9-10-9-27 (from some review on newegg) ive been running linx full memory test for 20 minutes and no crash yet
blink.gif

1:52 later and no crash
biggrin.gif
gonna try prime95 blend test

anyone welcome to join in on my fun
sleep.gif

EDIT: failed blend test
sleep.gif
almost gave up but switch the memory slots instead of 2 and 4 using 1 and 3 (same thing) and now it seems to be working hope itll pass an hour or 2 of blend
biggrin.gif

35 mins so far

is my mobo bad? or the slots? i really dont want to rma
