2500k to Ryzen

How much difference will NVME feel compare to Samsung 840 SATA ssd?

Probably none. I went from 2 standard SSDs in RAID0 to the Intel 600P NVME, and I didn't feel any difference at all. Unless you benchmark, you probably won't notice much of a difference.

If I install games on NVME surely load times should improve tho?

2 SSD's in Raid 0 vs m.2 not in raid? shouldn't that be a hint that m.2 is that much better? if not why bother spending on an M.2?

M.2 is convenient, because no cables. It's worth it to me just for that. :) Game load times weren't affected for me. But I'm comparing two entirely different systems, and old X79 Intel rig with RAID0 versus a new Ryzen rig with NVME. So take that with a grain of salt. I'm happy with my M.2, but I went for "bang for the buck". Mine won't perform anywhere near a Samsung 960 Pro though, but I'm still not sure how noticeable that difference would be.

Thing is, SSDs are quite quick already, and while NVMe is demonstrably much quicker, going from SSD to nVME is going from "nice and fast" to "nice and fast". It's not a leap like upgrading from a HDD, which was clearly holding modern PCs back.

I can't call it a waste of money, but return on investment isn't massive.

ok, so the rest of the parts have arrived except the M.2, but not expected until tomorrow anyway. just done the on the box test build. post's ok. but DDR speeds 2666-2933-3200... no 2800.
I'm sure there is a very good reason for this, but I don't know what it is. So I have arranged a return on the 2800 Mhz.

EDIT: erm, changed my mind again, paying £4 extra for the White LED Vengeance kit!

Yeah totally man, let us share your tech pron :D

Ram should be OK. You may need to set it to 3000 to get it 100% stable, but AXMP should be fine.. Yeah that's a nice board. Totally belies the price tbh.

Nice that your stuff is arriving don't forget to show us some piccies when it's all done :)

Of course. If I can work out how now photo bucket have stopped sharing!
ok, made a Flikr account. This is my current system. Older Photo tho, second PCIe extention hadn't arrived at this time. will share once new one sorted

When noctua send the am4 kit I may run with a single fan in middle to allow the ram to be exposed in its LED glory!

Dammit... will the spending ever stop... Just ordered a Cablemod Aura RGB strip...

I ran a Noctua with a single 140 fan in the middle for years. Firstly in my Alienware Aurora (which is tiny inside, I crammed it in good lol) and then on a I7 950. It made about 3c difference.

Ok so new ram in. Booted up and windows 10 did a config. And up and running. Still no m.2 tho.
Bios update doesn't seeem to want to complete. Using latest from website. Have to keep trying. Probably gonna download a slightly older on and go from there.
Have installed a cheap rgb strip for now whilst waiting for the cable mod kit to arrive. The white isn't very white!

Cinebench scores, stock clocks 1070 points. 3.70GHz 1211 points. I don't want to push to a higher clock until I have got the D14 back on there.

Good one that you managed to get it sorted

Yes, indeed it is!

Installed Ghost Recon wild lands on m.2. Loading times are approximately half of what they were on the old rig with the game on the SSD. I don't know how much is down to the CPU or the drive. But I ain't complaining!
The RGB control on this mobo is pretty damn cool tho. Can't wait to get a better quality strip in it.

I think I made the right call going for this 12 thread CPU. resource monitor is showing 60-70% utilization on all 12 threads whilst gaming!
Max temps 74c on the package AVG seems to sit mid 60's. 3.69GHz At 1.384v-1.417v according to HWmonitor.

The cooler they ship is pretty decent for a stock unit. It looks good too!
