2500K or i7-950?

Depends on what you are going to use your cpu to; like video editing, gaming etc etc.

If your building a gaming rig then buy the 2500K cus its faster.
If your doing video rendering or stuff like that then the i7-950 should be better cus it has twice as many threads.

How much video rendering do you do? If you do shed loads then you'd be better off with the i7-950.
If you don't really do that much then you'd probably benefit more from the faster 2500K if you really really like your games.
You'd probably not notice much of a difference with games really though I'm guessing. And I am guessing
Edit: If you've not already decided on a motherboard though you should probably check out both the P67 and X58 Sabertooth. The site has reviews of both if you haven't seen them.

No i don’t do shed loads mate just from time to time, i know, i don’t see the point in a 2600K because the difference from the 2500K and 2600K is insignificant for gaming.

I wouldnt fork over the extra cash for x58 with lga 1366 socket. Go for a p67 and the i5-2500k (if you really need rendering then get the 2600k it will be more then enough unless you are working for pixar or something) Plus in 5 months when Ivy Bridge comes out if you feel your RIG isnt adequate you will have that saved money to put towards the new cpu (which I believe will run on the lga 1155 socket, yes yes?).
