2400XT and ATi Overclocking

Hi guys,

Need some help from the ATi people here (of which I know there are few).

I got myself an HD 2400XT for the HTPC but been benching it recently due to boredom and I was missing benching. I have number 2 HD 2400XT spot in 2k1 atm with just under 26k (25933) and number 1 is sitting nicely at 26k (26096).

I can hit 860/910 on my card however he can hit 850/1062 which my card beats his core clock but I can't get any higher on the mem than 950 which isn't stable for lobby or car chase. The E6600 was sat at 3450mhz which the RAM 1:1 with it. I now have a Q6600 G0 SLACR chip which I'm going to see if I can get better but as far as I remember having more cores for 2k1 didn't help a great deal.

I think the core CAN go higher as well but I can't seem to get it to go higher as when I put it up even 5mhz it just shuts off the video. I can't be certain but as far as I remember you would get some sort of curruption first.

I'm running LOD 4 for all the tests as that's what Thicky said works best with ATi cards lol.

I can't use ATi Tool or Tray Tools for clocking the card as the R610pro core isn't supported yet, I have to use the AMD GOU Clock util which is ok but won't open if I use Tray Tools. It's a juggle between apps and have to leave stuff running in the background so I can change stuff.

Is there anything anyone can think of that could help this or am I stuck being so close, yet so far?

Cheers

I dont know if there are any Bios tools for these cards yet but i think you will find that the guy who is beating you have done some modding on the cards bios, and so he can run a bit losser memory timmings and run a higher bandwidth,.

This is what i have found with my 2900's there are a few out there that have the bios tools avalible and are able to tweak the cards bios and as such provided better clocks and performance.

So for now like myself you will just have to do the best you can with the cards untill we have the same tools as some outhers have got.

well done though mate very good results with that card.

Cheers mate :)

I'm gonna try to dump the BIOS using ATi Flash and then see if I can get a copy of RaBiT to work with the BIOS. It's the only thing I could think of also but atm I'm having trouble finding a floppy disk to dump the BIOS onto lol.

I dont know id rabit works or not with your card, i know it wont work with the 2900's yet, anyway that will be the way to go try and get as tight memory timmings as you can but with a bit more bandwidth, i dont know if you can use rabit like nibitor where you can test out timmings first before setting tem into the bios?

Well I managed to find a different version of my cards BIOS out there but still wouldn't allow me any more on the core, allowed another 50mhz on the VDDR but then decided to crap out so I don't know if it's helping or not.

I need to find a BIOS editor before I die from not having decent clocks on this card!

I'm not sure how you remembered my saying lod 4 was best, but i think lod 2 might be nearer the truth m8.

I think it was when we were messing with my X1950XTX and didn't really have a clue what was best as we didn't really do enough tests.

I'll give LOD 2 a shot but so far I've noticed that 2k6 doesn't take any notice of LOD :(

On another note, I've used the 2k6 calculator and found I really do need to figure out 2k6 tweaks, tweak the OS more (which could be hard), use different drivers, get more GDDR clocks somehow, or give up on number 1 (not gonna happen).

I've worked out I'll need at least an 11k CPU score to beat number 1 with my current GFX scores. I have yet to tweak my RAM settings and see if I can tighten them up to push a little more out. I've PM'd the ATI guru on XS to see if he can help with BIOS editing but so far no reply.

I'm gonna try to push the card further but it's not looking good as I think I may have damaged the RAM earlier. Must use better cooling.

More to follow...
