1440p Monitor Options

I am looking to upgrade to a 1440p monitor. Right now it looks like the Asus PB278Q is the bet one for me in my price range(about $600USD). I am thinking of waiting to get the new Asus PG278Q when it comes out in a few months, even though it will be a little more than I want to spend it looks like it will be worth it. Any other recommendations would be welcome so I have more options to consider. I was also considering running NVIDIA surround but I think 1 higher resolution monitor will be the way to go with the kind of games I like(mostly RPGs). Anyone who uses a 3 monitor setup let me know if it is truly worth it and what I can expect if I try it.

AMD tend to run better at higher resolutions. Plus AMDs Eyefinity is better than surround as its more flexible.

For RPGs the single higher res is much more worth it. TBH either of those 2 monitors are both amazing and i would get the cheaper one. You could also look into the Korean monitors.. i'm not expert on them but they are much cheaper and can be overclocked and such. Quality is ok though... someone else could better inform you on that though. I know a few people on these forums have gotten them and all have been happy.

Bear in mind that while the Asus PG278Q is very nice, it is a TN panel and I would never consider paying that much for a TN. They state it is a high quality TN panel but personally I chose to go with a Korean monitor and haven't looked back.

I purchased the qnix evolution 2 and will be overclocking it to 120hz or 96hz and will be upgrading it within a year or two when there will be more 1440p + 120hz monitors out.

I use 3 Qnix QX2710 1440P monitors. I just recently went from and AMD setup with eyefinity, to NVidia with surround in the last week. The NVidia surround takes my vote. Maybe a year ago it may have been different but NVidia seems to have everything AMD does now and it works better.

Opened windows remember their last known locations. With AMD every time I would open something it would show up on a different screen, and usually open up across all three screens maximized. Hydravision worked but not perfect in my experience. Had to hold down a special key at the same time of pushing the maximize button. With surround when I maximize something, it maximizes to the screen it is currently on, not across all three. YouTube videos did not work full screen with AMD under Chrome, now they do.

The biggest thing i did not like with eyefinity was the fact that the outside screen were magnified and blurred to the point of just looking horrible, especially when looking close up. With surround the outside screens looks just like the center screen.

I took a picture of this one instance, that right screen does not look so good.

As for a single 1440 monitor it is awesome. I would have never spent $600+ dollars for one but I came across these Korean displays with Samsung PLS panels inside of them. They look great and many of them will run at 96-120Hz as well. At least with the DVI input models only. I have the ones with multiple inputs. They were $359 each. I found the ones with just a DVI input for as little as $289 but did not last very long. Typically there were $329.

I bought two at first and added a third a couple of weeks later. The first 2 arrived from Korea to me in the US overnight. and the third one I ordered took 2 days!

I'm looking to shed the 1080p shackles and move up to 1440 res. I'm going to wait for the Asus PG278Q to come out since it's so close to release. (hopefully!!) I'm really looking forward to checking out Gsync and the cost of adding it myself to the VG248QE seems like a waste to me at this point.
