1440p IPS 144hz

Hey everybody,

I've been looking for a 1440p IPS monitor that supports 144hz or above. I'm upgrading my GPU to a 1070, so it would make most sense to get a Gsync display. But everywhere I look, I see a truckload of people reporting problems with backlight bleeding, dead pixels etc.
Are the panels really that bad currently?

All TN/IPS panels these days have backlight bleeding to some extend. It's just how much you can tolerate that's the main issue here. Some people return those Acer and Asus IPS 144 Hz screen with the slightest BLB, and some even go crazy about white uniformity not being perfect. It's at a point where it has become a bit silly though.

So the best thing you can do it check some reviews, order the desired screen, and hope for the best. If it's not to your liking return it, rinse and repeat... It's all about getting lucky with a screen that isn't too bad.

Best way to test it is adjust the screen with calibrated settings (typically found on tftcentral.org), sit in a dark room in front of the screen and play some dark games, Skyrim comes to mind or watch a dark movie.

My Asus mg279 has one spot where its clearly visible it bleeds light, but i chose to live with it because despite that spot, its a great monitor and considering the other replacements i received, this one was the best.

I do think its silly that in 2016, bleeding is a thing that occurs so much. but apart from that, i could never go back to a 60hz display.

Hey Bugs, I have an acer XB270HU bprz 27" (the 1440p gsync one). Having run it on a variety of games over the last 6-8months i can tell you the "WOW" moment comes from the 144hz not the gsync. Gsync seems to be a bit twitchy depending on the game but just looking at a 144hz screen is heaven for me. I used to have an old sony 21" CRT back tha day running at 115hz and since then until this monitor i had to put up with the 60hz nonsense on lcd panels until the tech caught up. So i would whole-heartedly recommend 144hz but the extra $100 you'll spend on the gsync is an optional extra imho.

Dude go for the ASUS PG279Q I literally LOVE mine it's completely changed my gaming experience. 1440p and 165Hz refresh.

As for backlight bleed. that comes with IPS just at varying amounts. Dead pixels each retailer has it's own policy but usually you need 4 or more I think to qualify for a repalcement

I guess its nearly impossible to get a 144+hz monitor without gsync or free sync. And yeah, I would want something with IPS too, coming from a IPS monitor.
I like the ASUS PG279Q, but damn its expensive. Its 920$ in my country.
