120hz monitors

Christmas put some money on my bank account and i considered a lot of things to spend it on, came down to either a proper racing setup or a new monitor. Since pCars won't release for a while and me still prioritizing fps games i decided that a new monitor would be money well spent.

To get some things out of the way.
Yes i am aware that IPS panels look better. Yes i am aware that 1440p panels look better. But i play competitive FPS games and those benefit the most from 120hz panels, so there is no point in trying to persuade me.

I am not a fan of huge monitors, it already breaks my heart to only find 24"+ monitors, i don't have much room on my desk so 24" is as high as i want to go.
So far i've been looking at the BenQ XL2411T and the Asus VG248QE, the specs are pretty similar, the Asus is a bit more expensive, therefore it has a slightly higher refresh rate (144hz) and it would fit with my soon to be secondary monitor, which is also by Asus.
The reviews about the BenQ are very much mixed, some love it, some hate it, i heard it takes some workarounds to get the colors right.
Currently i am leaning towards the Asus, but i am open for other suggestions as well.
Does anyone have any experience with either one of them?

If you go for the BenQ make sure to get the second revision. It has 144hz too, and the colours are supposed to be better also.

I've got a VG236h which also had very mixed reviews, but I saw the negativity in regards to the price rather than the quality of the monitor. I.e. For the price you can get a better 60Hz monitor.
The question is whether the extra 60Hz makes the experience better. Well the quality of it makes my other monitor look nasty (LG)
I believe it gives a placebo effect and makes games smoother, or its just that my LG sux.

The only issue I have now is that I'm likely switching to AMD meaning the 3D glasses won't work (not that I use them anyway)

In all honesty I believe the FPS of your games should make your mind up if there is an benefit to have.

cs - 333fps
bc2 - 120fps

If you check the amazon.de page, right on the bottom there is a discussion. And people in it say that recent buyers have received the revision 2 version.

Somewhere else I read that alternate.de has the new version.

It seems in Germany they just didn't ad the "e" to the end of the model name. My guess is that they just ship the new ones, when the old ones are out of stock.

I'm thinking about getting a high refresh rate monitor, too. But I'll try to pace myself until the whole G-Sync thing is sorted out.

Take a look at the QNIX QX2710 Evolution 2

its a cheap korean monitor, panel is a PLS Panel by Samsung runs at 2560x1440p and people are overclocking these things well past 100 hz, 120hz is achievable, some have even claimed they can handle 130hz+, but that is panel lottery I guess.

They're increadibly cheap, but that comes at a price: Its likely they will have pixel errors, so look for a vendor that sells perfect screens and guarantees no pixel errors. Backlight bleed is also possible, but there are plenty of guides on how to fix it on youtube.

Just saying if you want both high res and high refreshrate, like I do

Quick edit: The screen is 27" tho. So when you say you're limited in desk space, this could be a problem.

i'll check that out, but i'm still not sure if the asus one wouldn't just be the easier choice with better aesthetics.

that one is extremely tempting, but unfortunately not sold in germany. would have to import it, which is mad money.

I bought it and I'm German. Yes it has to be imported, but they're still cheap.

Look on ebay.de for a good seller. Don't be fooled tho, some say they have pixel perfect quality, what they actually mean by this tho is up to 5 dead pixels or so, backlight bleeding notwithstanding.

Personally I would get the BenQ XL2420T rev2.0 24" TRUE 144Hz monitor, Here's a link to the overclockers store page with a lot of info -

I've seen this monitor in person and it's gorgeous to play on, Highly recommended if your n the market for 122Hz or higher also if you look around you will be able to have it shipped to you in Deutschland

The VG248QE will be able to upgrade to g-sync
that is a pretty good argument for that one.

I have the BENQ one and its fantastic. Annoying part was adjusting the colours and brightness. There was a profile found by google searching that had a good setup so I copied that.

However, I strongly suggest going with the VG248QE since as mentioned below you can upgrade to Gsync when the module becomes available.

The upgrade takes about 30mins max according to reviews and is as easy as installing new RAM modules.

what's weird is that the vg248qe has been around a few years already, but it already has the slot for the gsync module. why would they already put a port for a module on their pcb that doesn't even exist? i suppose they got some early information, but still, that's planning way ahead.

Nope, not really. Nvidia are re-using that slot in purpose. The slot usually contains a chip that handles things like OSD and modifications to the image, switching between input sources etc.
Nvidia just designed their G-SYNC card to fit in this slot.

They have been developing Gsync with Nvidia for the past year and a half. This is one reason I guess why Asus have the exclusivity to releasing monitors with this technology way before anyone else. Also probably the reason why the module is currently only available for this model from Asus at the moment as it has been pre emptively prepared for customers to upgrade once the tech was full tested and launched.
