1155 or 1366

C3mods

Ok I have some funds coming in for a new build. I have been thinking about getting a i7 2600k and a gigabyte ud7 mb. But on the other hand been thinking about one of the new gigbyte assasin mb which is 1366.

I don't know which I should get, not sure about which would be better for gaming, video, cad, and other stuff like that.

On one hand I like the idea of the more controlling aspect of oc'ing on the 1366 cpu, but on the other the ease of oc'ing the sb cpus.

I might be able to afford up to the i7-970 Gulftown but not the 980x or 990x. So what would you suggest to get.

The rest of the computer will be:

G.Skill ram more than likely 8gig worth

Will be Watercooled, just because I like watercooled rigs, but won't be just for looks

2x GTX 580s

Kingston V+100 or G.Skill SSD

WD Veloci for everything used more often

Samsung 2tb x2 for raid storage

Either a NZXT hale90 1000watt or Corsair 1000w psu

NZXT Phantom White case

The phantom is not a good watercooling case tbh not much room. If you have the money and dont need a rig right now i would wait and save up for lga 1365.

It's a tough choice but if I had the money I would go with the Assassin and a 970, i would have to do something about that magazine heatsink though.

If you have money to spend X58 and if you want to spend less 1155.

older socket = cheaper but less chance of upgrading in the future

newer socket = more expensive, but will have a longer half life

your choise really, save money now, or spend now and save later

I thought about that, and I already have the phantom case. I know I can fit a 240 rad in it, going to see what else with a few mods I can put in it.

Corsair 800D would be the case

Love the look and idea of the 800D, but worried about the air flow problems with it.

I am still deciding what processor to get, I might hold off for a bit and see what happens

Why do people want to spend that much on a case with bad airflow, and a ton of 5 1/4" slots. Seriously, the 800D is so overrated.

Just for arguments sake, you can get great airflow and ALMOST as much upgradeability from a decent mATX case!

I'm not saying you should go mATX, but just pointing out how ridiculous the 800D is, both size and price.

I would go with 1155 as its newer and allows more awesome overclocking, also it means you wont have to get gay trip channel RAM
