1 core hotter than others

Since building my rig, i have noticed that one of the cores in my 2500K is running around 8c hotter than the others. Is this normal or is there something i can do to bring all the cores to around the same temps?

The other 3 cores are all within 1-2c of each other, just core #1 that is above the rest.

It's a common thing, one of my cores runs around 8 *c hotter than the others idle but they pretty much even out on load. It's nothing to worry about anyway it happens a lot with Intel CPUs.

yeah same thing here two of my cores are always 6 °C hotter in idle but on full load they are almost the same

perfectly normal. i think they should sticky this lol seems everytime someone moves to SB they make this same post.

Stop following you troll, no one care what you think.

lol with my 2600k I have one thats always 3c warmer 2 that are dead even and one thats either 1c cooler than warmest or the same. So basically 2 at 36c and 2 at 39c lol

My temps are the same on idle, but onload core 2 is like 8c above the other cores which are pretty even

Ive noticed it on a bunch of 4+ core intel chips, alot more than the dual cores. My old q6600's had a 6-7c spread each. and my 970 has a 8-10c spread with 0/5 being 64-65c 1/4 being 60-62 and 2/3 being 55-58

Aslong as the sensor isn't "stuck", it should be ok. If you run.... RealTemp ... I think it is, it can run a change test on the core sensors and advise if the movements are right.

I've had stuck readings on a core before now, Intel replaced the cpu for me.

Core #1 is the issue with my 2500K. It is normally hotter than all the other cores at idle and under load.

Is it worth setting OC to individual cores and reducing that core at all?

Need to have a look at my OC anyway as it is my first one and temps/volts seem high for what i'm getting

It's nothing to worry about, it happens, a lot. If it was hotter as in running over the safe temp zone then you should worry but a few *c difference is nothing to worry about and like others have said it happens to them also.

Here is a screen grab of what I am getting

First overclock so not tweaked the power yet. Don't think I can set VCore lower than the 1.315v its currently set at and stay stable, will give it a go though

This has been running for 2hrs and counting.......

1.32v is good for 4.5ghz 1.35v is the average so it looks like you have a decent chip. See if you can get a bit lower, you should be able to set the Vcore from around 1.2v upward, you will need at the least 1.25v though and if you are lucky and won the silicone lottery you might be stable at 1.25v.

If you really are paranoid about it, you can open the processes tab in task manager and right click on a few processes and hit set affinity. uncheck cpu0 on a few low power processes and that should help with the temp a little

Thanks for clearing this up guys, I too was concerned with my 2600K doing this. Glad to know I'm not the only one

I know this thread is a bit older, but I think this might just be an intel thing. I recently upgraded my mates rig to an E7300 and OC'd it to 2.86Ghz. Core 0 runs anywhere up to 10C cooler than core 1. I thought it might have been improperly spread thermal compound, so I re-did it a few times but to no benefit (using a Zalman CNPS8000B, which is loud as crap by the way, don't buy it [I just had it laying around]). So I guess it's just like that. Going to be upgrading to a quaddy soon (Q6600 or something, still looking for one) and a Hyper TX3 Evo, so I guess it may be the same as well.
