Only useful to the 1% of Xbox owners who own the One X to actually make use of the features. The Xbox One can't even do 1080p

The way the platform works I'm guessing they want the support there for future systems as well. Also makes them ready for when and if freesync becomes normal on tvs. Kind of how they are enabling 4k on 360/original xbox games.
