Upgrading the Laptop, Nvidia or stick to AMD 675M VS 7970M

Simply put I am planning to upgrade the powerhouse that is my gaming laptop, I currently have the 6990m installed in my system and it is ok, I have heard that Nvidia has had better quality as far as the mobile market goes but I have only had a small few problems with my 6990m, nothing truly major. So I am wondering, switch over companies and go for the 675m or wait for the full 680m, or not wait at all and go for the 7970m, I have not found many benchmarks at all, and so I am just taking a shot in the dark here, I mean I like the Red Team, but I like the green team too, what do you guys think?

You guys don't keep up with The mobile market much XD Nvidia released the 675m bout 2 weeks ago which I found out is a renamed 580m =___= and then the 7970m is seeming to be an amazing new gen 22nm card which on factor clocks is a 25-30% increase over the 6990m and OC like nothing the mobile market has seen up till now, but I am just wondering if I should hold out for the 680m from Nvidia. So really this whole question comes down to Red Team or Green Team.

I think it is a waste of money all together. Mobile GPUs are almost double the price of the desktop version with half the performance.

Here's a list of the mobile chipsets, from the most powerful at the top.

http://www.notebookc...List.844.0.html

All the ones with a present generation name that say Dx11 are rebadged. All the ones that show Dx11.1 are newer. Pretty much. (if they were new generation, the tests would show 11.1)

Still don't know why a 6990m isn't good enough - heck I play everything on a Quadro 770m with performance drivers, 1920x1200.

Because I am running near 80c non-overclocked right now. I also like to have games run on higher settings, is it so bad to want a better performing graphics card that can oc to be about the same performance of a desktop 6970 and barely hit over 72c?

... on a laptop ...

Ok, if you do not like how I like to run my gaming laptop then why did you comment? To make a needless argument? I like high spec gaming on a mobile platform, is that so bad? I also have my reason as to why I cannot really build a desktop till latter in the year, but I still want to run Ultra-to near Ultra spec on all games for PC but anyway, do you have a valid answer to my above question, wait for the 680m or go for the 7970m now.

I am just going to up front with this, either you are terrible with money or you have poor judgment. You could purchase a nice gaming desktop for what one 675m is worth, and you are telling us "I also have my reason as to why I cannot really build a desktop till latter in the year..." What possible reason do you have to purchase a $800+ mobile gpu which only offer half that of the desktop version and not be able to build a desktop till later this year? You may as well purchase a new laptop yea it will cost more, but hey, judging by what I am reading from you you want the latest, so wait till their is an ivy alienware and purchase that with a 680m already in it. Where can you buy mobile GPUs from, how much are they?

Just out of interest, I'm sure you've already thought about these, but is the power draw, heat and most importantly the size of the new GPU compatible with your current laptop?

General rule of thumb on OC3D - if it's just me with a "WTeF!" look on my face, then it could be I'm being funny. It wouldn't be the first time.

When multiple people do it, it's generally considered it's not just me.

Companies have an online part store you can go to and get parts for specific laptops. The are meant for tech companies that fix computers but can also be for consumer. a mobile GPU cost 2 and sometimes 3 times as much as a desktop version.

If you have nothing productive to add to this post, and all you seem to have is negative criticism, please do not comment on this post. I am not here to be fought tooth and nail, I am here for a solid answer to the above question.

Yes master!!

Also I did give you a clear answer "...wait till their is an ivy alienware and purchase that with a 680m already in it." Reading seems to be a problem on your part. And trying to give you a clear answer to a question with no logic behind it is not easy.

Here is another clear answer GET THE 7970m.
