I'm afraid it will have the same problem as other x00GB drives I have heard about: fragility. The data being so dense on a portable medium might cause it to get corrupted easily.

But if this is a good medium and it turns out to be affordable (slim chance as even Blu-ray is still expensive), backuping will be done with just two disks ^^

im actually surprised this is going into production...I read about multilayered structural disks going back to when DVD came about...Pioneer had something similar then but it was never commercially released...but blimey 400gb..blawdy hell...I could back up everything on 4 disks ...as for the fragility problem...sony UMD style cartridge type carry cases would solve that...

Read this for more info on multi layered disks...as you can see some of this info is from 2005
