Gaming Monitor

Hello.
Firstly, what is your budget?
Secondly, what do you do - gaming, editing?
Thirdly, what graphics card do you have?

For the monitor, the 120hz is great, in (I would say) in almost all situations.
However correct me if im wrong, at the moment in this presence in time, you can only get 120hz on TN panels which is inferior to the IPS panels which can reproduce way better colours than TN panels. Although TN panels have the lowest response time you can get, 1ms.

In my experience on the other hand, 120hz is just amazing however the fact that they're only on TN panels were just...arghh!
In the end I settled with an 24" IPS panel monitor, has 5ms reponse time, don't really see big diff in 1ms vs 5ms to be honest. But, this is a big but, the colour is so much more satisfying.

PS. If you are totally sold on that BenQ monitor and you want to go 3D (can only do so on this monitor if you have a Nvidia card), i'd advise you to buy this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-071-BQ&groupid=17&catid=1851

Yeah my main fear was that I would sacrifice some colour quality for 120Hz and 120Hz is only on TN pannels from what I have read. As for my hardware and price range I'm currently running a 680 and my price range is £300-£400 but I could go higher if the price increase is justifiable, and the main activities on the monitor would be gaming and some media streaming. I do really enjoy having great visuals in a game though so in this case would an IPS pannel be the better choice?

I would go with a 120Hz monitor only if I would plan on using 3D(since you need 120Hz for 3D) or playing games at a competitive level(and earning something from that :D) but for all else I would go with an IPS panel, much better colors.

I don't plan on on using 3D and I deffinetly wouldn't call myself a pro gamer! I'll probably go with an IPS pannel then, would it be worth spending extra for a 2560x1440 model or is the quality you gain over a 1920x1080 pannel not worth the price?

i got a 1080p acer gaming monitor its passive 3d but i dont really use the 3d mode only for 3d blurays if and when i plug the ps3 into it.

tbh if i had a choice now i would go with a 1440p ips monitor the quality on them is outstanding and you can get a dell Ips for under 200 what is quality 24" or go upto £300 for the 27" 1440p version.

i like the lG ultra wide seen it in action but the price is too steep for me...

shop around and even look locally at places like believe it or not Argos/tescos the latter tescos had the lgs in stock along with a few dells on display at my superstore :D

argos seem to like doing samsung and acer monitors and normally have a few on display they also have lenovo point is you can take a look at a few monitors decide what you like then order online for cheaper lolz

benefits of xl2420t:

Fast pixel response time (fluid motion)
120hz = active 3d
Low input lag.
reasonable colours for a TN

drawbacks:
low quality photos (i.e. older camera phones) = AWFUL. Haven't worked out what setting causes it.
poor viewing angles.
shite colours compared to IPS etc

Acer H236HL is 1080p IPS monitor with a 5ms response time. 10mm bezel makes it look sexy also! It is a glossy screen though and I am pretty sure it's a glass panel so it shouldn't give as bad of a reflection as a plastic one would.

I have the xl2420t, the feature set for fps games is truly fantastic. I cant look at 60hz monitors without seeing what seems to be screen tearing anymore.

Out of the box colour is awful, but with a bit of tweaking its the same as any other TN panel. With the multiple mode select its helpful as well. You can have colour settings for the games you like to play.
