7950 < 6870 BFBC2 fps

Yea, it's me and my 7950 again. I now tried several different drivers, overclocked the CPU and re set up everything several times, all to no avail. with the 6870 i used to have 100-140 fps in BC2 on an empty Atacama Dessert Server. Now with the same settings i only get 60-100fps. GPU does pretty much nothing at 20% load while the CPU is close to killing itself at 90-100% load. i do understand that my CPU is bottlenecking me, but this just doesnt seem right.

also when i start the game it's at 60 fps. when i log in it drops to 30 fps and when i search for severs it drops to 14 fps. wat.

checked for that, nothing is using the cpu besides bc2. also the fps drop to 30 when i open the scoreboard

dx9 = about the same FPS as with the 6870, but massive fps drops.
dx10 = 6870 100-140 fps 7950 = 60-100fps
dx11 = 7950 god damn 50-70fps! WAT

same rig. just switched the GPUs. also it's definitely not the GPUs fault, it achieves the benchmark results it should.

i just stumbled upon this. i look straight in one direction (empty server, nothing changes here what could trigger the fps to drop) and i have 60 fps. pretty steady. then it goes up to 100 fps. steady as well. and then a few seconds later it drops to 60 again. it does that all the time.

i set the power limit to +20% in afterburner. it seems like the UI is causing the fps drops. clocks are steady though

You really need to use the edit button instead of posting consecutively.

And I meant can your PSU supply enough amps.

I find it odd that you're getting 2D rendering issues, your card must be faulty.

I notice you have a Rasurbo psu, I never heard of that brand before so that worrys me, although you said your cpu is at 100% usage so this seems like a simple case of being bottlenecked

yea the PSU is complete and utterly shit. i was young and i had no idea of what i was doing back then, and a cheap 650W PSU cought my eye. In the example with the chat box the cpu was at about 70-80%. oh well, i guess i can't deal with that until may/june. that is the time i intend to get a new CPU, mainboard, ram and PSU. if it's really necessary i will ask a friend of mine to order one for me as well, 15€ for shipping is too much ;)

also here are my Tom2D benchmarks:

Looking at the same benchmarks for a 7950 it seems to fall pretty far behind in most tests. For example lines, drawing to DIB, yours is 73028 vs another 7590 at 182122.

so should i RMA it? i'd try it in another rig, but i dont know anyone close to my place who has a PC that isnt garbage.

It's hard to say mate, the only other that worries me is the PSU you're using.

Apart from that I really don't know what else could be affecting it, if the rest of the system performs much better with a 6870.

Maybe check how much you have to pay if it isn't faulty and if it's not too much and you don't mind, then it might be worth seeing if they think it is faulty too.
