Small talk & Chit chat

This is amusing cos F1 2020 doesn't officially support VR haha

What Warchild said ^^^

On a side note, Got a nice email from Scottish Power today kindly letting me know my electricity bill will be going up to £50 per month from £20 per month, I phoned them up and the man on the other end of the line said it is because I am now using over twice as much as last year, I explained to him exactly what I have on every day, My rig which is on maybe a total combined 6 hours per day and my fridge, Everything else is off at the plugs, When I'm online like here, I use my tablet to browse and type.

He said and I quote "not my problem" and then hung up the phone.

I really hate England, Not the people, But the way this country is run and the fact that every utility company is now owned by a foreign company so they can charge whatever they want and even the watch dogs are a waste of space, If you have a complaint there's not a sniff you can do about it.

England needs an overhaul.

Renationalise the big six energy companies! Besides removing the parasitic nature of private energy supply and it's pricing, its the only way we will ever meet out 2030 carbon targets and environmental deadlines. Private companies simply can't be held to account in the ways required.

Agreed, When I worked in France last year I paid roughly £40 per month and my room mate and myself had our rigs on 24/7, Cooker was electric which was used several times per day, Big fridge, 2 x big TV's and 2 x electric blankets.

If I did the same in England it would be north of £80 per month, It's insanity.

Only a very small amount of what we pay is for the electricity we use, Over 50%, Conservative estimate based on an article a year or 2 ago, Goes to shareholders, Most of which are in other countries, So nothing gets put back into the system hence why the prices are stupendously high for what we use, Things need to change.

Think you missed the point. Only Half Life Alyx supports VR. The top game on steam is a VR game basically.

I didn't miss it, just made me laugh that it (F1 was the only one I know didn't officially support it) doesn't support it but people will find a way and good on them for it!

F1 2020 wouldb be an awesome VR game. It has everything Project cars lacks... realism.

I watched a video with Jimmy Broadbent where the VR is essentially forced. He chundered shortly after completing the race.

I'm really enjoying it. I'm not very good, struggle to be consistent and so of the quicker corners or direction changes I find very hard on a controller but building your own team is amazing!

Do you not find the F1 game physics quite arcadey? I always wondered whether it was accurate for the game to behave in the way it does (The weirdly on-rails kinda thing) and going from the F1 drivers streaming over lockdown (Verstappen, Norris, Leclerc, Albon) the general criticism seemed to be that this was quite an inaccurate representation, especially with curbs and such, compared to some other racing sims, where the cars slip a little more and the difference between traction and slipping isn't quite as "binary" almost

Sorry for not being in the loop, but what the Hell did you do in that apartment to make it level 4 environmental hazzard?

I didn't do anything man. It was damp when we moved in, I didn't want to live there (my ex wife was determined) and we got sold a pack of lies. All of it was going to be fixed, all of it was going to be sorted out etc etc etc.

Six years? my landlady didn't lift a finger. It got steadily worse, for the last two years of me living there she ignored me. Like, totally ignored me.

If you don't know the story I will truncate it.

"Why not move out?" 1. If I left the property I would have, in the eyes of the UK govt "made myself homeless" meaning I would not be eligible for social housing. 2. No one would rent to me, because they discriminate against those who use council rent to pay rent. IE, they think we are all alcoholics or drug addicts. They say "No benefits" which tbh? wasnt even legal and I believe that is being changed now.

So I was stuck there. I could not live with my mother as her council tax would have X10 and so on and so on.

That was about a year before I left. It got worse, and worse, and worse. The walls were almost 100% water by the time I was rescued by an autism charity.

This is a common trick in the UK. You buy a old dump for cheap, rent it to some one and if they ever complain you evict them and bring in someone that won't complain. Which at the end is what she tried to do, but she did not realise that she wasn't speaking to me in email she was talking to four professional property solicitors who work for my autistic trust. So she got sued once and lost, and now she is back in court for more violations.

But I decided I wasn't going to take this lying down, and I brought in Environmental Services. Again she thought it was all a bluff and called me a "nasty little man" but it wasn't a bluff. And they slapped a order on it to say that she cannot do anything with it at all until they sign it off, and it will cost about £50k to put right. So it's a stalemate. A quagmire, I believe they call it.

I told her not to F with me when the communication broke down as she had failed to fix anything. She thought I was physically threatening her. Oh no, no no no. I am like a terrier with a bone dude. I'm incredibly passive but once I go over that edge I will never, ever let go.

Just witnessed a fatality... Car changed lanes on the motorwar into a speeding truck which smash into its rear, and launched the car :(

Car driver to blame, but no chance of survival. Jeez makes you wonder if the car didnt have crumple zones, would the driver have lived.

No, he wouldn't. That amount of force would just rip the organs out of their positions causing instantaneous death. The force would be even stronger without crumple zones. It is a very common type of damage caused by strong impacts.

Crumple zones on cars are extremely good. If cars didn't have crumple zones most accidents that now aren't (with crumple zones) would be fatal. The reason is massive damage to internal organs due to the force of the impact. With crumple zones, the force is absorbed and diverted around the cabin making it less damaging to human body.

If the crash was so bad that the whole car got squashed there is no way he would have survived either way. Sadly that is how physics works.

Either way witnessing something like that is pretty stressful.

Yeah, impact is a major killer. Like when Dale Earnhart died. His skull literally ripped off his spine. That's why they have those bungee things on their helmets that connects to the seat now.

It's not nice to see though tbh. If you need to talk we're here dude.

They did actually have HANS devices at the time, but they were as yet not fully proven in benefits and Earnhart found them restrictive and called them a "noose" because he felt it was more likely to hang him than save his life. His death was the key factor that led to them being mandated for NASCAR though, and not long after Mercedes were finishing their near-decade of research on the devices to verify their benefits to single seater racing series (Focus on HANS devices in F1 started with Senna and Ratzenberger's deaths at the 1994 San Marino GP, both from basilar skull fractures).

But yeah, deeply unpleasant in any circumstance. Crazy how our understanding of this type of injury is so recent.

Oh nice! Have fun!

For those who recall my issues with ASUS regarding the faulty monitor they have no sent out and I have received a brand new replacement.

Due to the delay I actually bought a brand new Dell monitor which I am chuffed with!

However, this has left me confused over what to do with the ASUS replacement. It is brand new and sealed, however, ASUS confirmed it will carry the original warranty which only has 3 months left.

I considered selling the ASUS unit but am hesitant due to the new buyer not having an warranty on a brand new monitor. I spoke with ASUS and asked if I could purchase a warranty for it and they advised no.

What would you guys do it my situation? I could use it as a second monitor...

Send it back. Not worth keeping if its so unreliable. Id stick with 1 screen and I think Dell will be a good replacement for sure.

As you can't get a refund for the Asus monitor just sell it with the info that it only has 3 months left, Extra change in your pocket.

But then Asus would have the monitor and his money, He'd be left with nothing.

Wait, they don't do refunds? I would have thought the original etailer would step in and honor the transaction.
