I just installed outlook on my new Win7 desktop. I am having problems figuring out how to get my inbox folder from my old XP outlook to my new Win7 outlook...2 different desktops. All mail that i save is in a hierarchy system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You should just be able to import or copy the .pst file from XP into 7. Are the the same versions of outlook?

The new versions can accept all the old files back to version 2.3 or something... so you should (like ^he said) copy and paste... Its what I did when my boss gave me my new workstation... from xp to 7... personally i don't like outlook that much... but I'm warming up to the new version...

On your Windows XP machine go to Control Panel and then Mail and hit the Data File button. You should now see the path of where your pst(s) are. Go into Windows Explorer and browse to those paths. Copy your pst to a USB stick and then copy to your Windows 7 machine and make a note of where you copied it to :)

Go into Control Panel and then Mail and then Data File and you can click on the Add button to add you "old" pst. Open up Outlook and you should be able to see your old emails, etc by clicking on personal folder that you just added.

If you old Outlook was 2002 or older, you might want to copy your old emails over to your new personal folder so that you are not limited to the 2GB limit.

I have a very similar problem here. I made the mistake of trusting Windows easy transfer to save the emails/ contacts/ and some important drafts on the Pc i built for my mum. She had asked me to install XP 64bit originally, but i insisted she let me upgrade it to Win 7, when it was done it had transfered all the pictures and internet favourites, but somehow failed to move over her contacts or messages. It also didn't move over any of her music, just the blank links.
Now i have this old Pc file and i was wondering if there was any way of accessing it to pull the lost files out if they are there?

I didn't rate the Imap account, for some reason it was often disconnecting. Went back to POP and no problems. I was shocked that nobody on here had a solution to my issue posted above! I was sure there was a way, but just don't know what that is myself. :-/
