AMD Responds to Radeon VII Short Supply Rumours

I want to try and get either a top end Sapphire version if Sapphire decide to have more than 2 in the UK this time, Or a top end ROG version, Maybe the whole 5000 cards thing was for AMD's own reference version.

Crypto mining boom might have a thing or two to do with it.

It did, but now there are still people looking for 1080ti performance without paying the utter premium that Nvidia is handling for that performance, these cards will ship to those people much more likely for 100 less then the 2080's

Nope, Fury and Fury X were constantly out of stock too. It took me ages to track down a second hand one to do Crossfire with. I only got the first because a guy from OCUK bought it on day 0 and sold it to me a week later.

People will still buy them dude. Some (like Kaap) buy them just to bench them. Then you have those that refuse to buy Nvidia no matter what and etc.

For a lot of prosumer/content creation workloads this is a cheaper and equally capable alternative to Quadro's too.

Honestly I expect this to be sold out everywhere very quickly.

If the performance is as good as AMD have shown, then for what looks like the same/similar performance as a 1080Ti/2080 for cheaper than either of them are brand new if you wanted to buy today, then I can see alot of people buying one to get away from nVidia.

I have a 1080Ti and I have no intention of buying an RTX card or even buying this card from AMD, but if this is a pre-cursor to what there next cards are going to be like then AMD are really starting to get back in to the high end market and it's only going to be a good thing.

I was going to say, 5000 cards worldwide is utter bull. If that was truly the case, AMD would have done it as some special edition and number them individually just like Sony did with the Grey and 500 million editions of the PS4.

IMO I think the 5000 is just the reference style cards and not the GPU package itself, I highly doubt AMD would've made such a song and dance out of this chip if they were limited to such a tiny number.

I agree, that's the most plausible explanation I've seen. Same with the song and dance, it would make absolutely no sense to give it a big reveal to then say "oh, we only have 5000 of them" without making it some special collectors edition

Yup, just a shame they have disabled DP really.

DP isn't really useful in any prosumer or content creation workloads, more of a STEM research/simulation thing(Where you'd expect them to get Instinct cards I guess, often given them for free with many research institutions, similarly how they announced a bucket load of developer teams would be getting handed Radeon 7's.).
