Sony promises VRR support on PS5 with a future update

I think Sony was hinting at the unlocked framerate for VRR functionality as at a static framerate/refresh rate it's not all that useful.

If Sony is only allowing it to be used for unlocked framerate that's the 2nd dumbest decision they've made so far(first being no 1440p support).

Sony seems to be behind Microsoft on several fronts this console generation, Not only on raw compute performance, Comparable as both have the exact same GPU architecture, But also on things like being able to store unused games on an external drive and now this.

These consoles should've been delayed to next year.

Not really comparable though Dice. They are using different system architecture and tools/libraries. It's not apples to apples.

Sony just needs to do 1440p support and VRR. Then not much they are behind on.

I feel Sony will be way ahead myself 1080p and 4k are the most common TV resolutions, but they will add 1440p no doubt but game wise they are a fair way ahead imho.

True, Although according to various posts the PS5 isn't using full on RDNA2, More like RDNA 1.5 as it's a hybrid design between 1+2 where as MS decided to go all in with a full RDNA2 GPU, I'd love to know the reasoning behind Sony's decision though.

Really depends, While Sony's winning games i.e God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us and Spiderman are really really good, That's just 4 games, MS bought Bethesda and if MS decide to be dicks they can make any future Elder Scrolls, Wolfenstein and Fallout games exclusive to Windows and Xbox and those games, Elder Scrolls in particular, Always sell boat loads of copies.

Cerny s quoted during his talk saying RDNA2 and the other rumours that Sony worked with AMD to build RDNA2 would entirely go against the stupid 1.5 rumour that people are talking about. MS made a comment and people took it literally. Means nothing and doubt they know exactly what the PS5 had before launch(when the comment was made). Heck I'm pretty sure back in March they even confirmed it when AMD announced RDNA 2? Unless I'm remembering that date wrong.

Point is it's RDNA 2 with 36 CUs but comparing systems is difficult. MS loves split memory for some reason and trying to use all that comes at a costs for optimization. Not to ken the increased ssd speed allows less memory be dedicated to future data the game will need, though at these speeds it's likely only a second or two difference which wouldn't amount to much I'm guessing. I'm sure in a handful of years they'll figure it out and Series X will turn out to be overall better but by then we will get Series X 2 or PS5 Pro or some variation.

I'm sure M$ will be dicks, but their launch line up it trash and Sony have barely done anything yet give it a few years and it'll show, personally wont buy a PS5 until towards the end of it's life.

As for bugthesda enjoy the long ass wait to see fruit from that tree, imho microsoft massively over paid for them. Game pass while being good value in the short term i can see people ditching it soon after can't see microsoft funding all the best games into that service so it will be no good long term.
