"Your pc is ok to turn off now"

Sounds like the ballpark to look in, neither of the pcs are acting up at all, I think they have a thing in Bios spelt differently, like "APCI" or something.

I was wondering if it was coz I selected "Standard pc" on one of them - but then on the otherone it`s installed as "ACPI Multiprocessor" - so meh..

It`s something to do with this, must be.

It's been a long time since I manually selected the PC type on installing Windows, but IIRC selecting "Standard PC" will not install the necessary bits to turn off your PC after shutdown. It definitely needs to be ACPI Uniprocessor/Multiprocessor or whatever the choice is.

Yeah, if u install on something basic like a single cored Athlon, taking away the powersaving options from the install gives u that much less overhead. A minor speed increase if u like.

However, it may have been the case in the past that I`ve installed windows without selecting the processor type initially, and changed it afterwards (through device manager) - which is why I`ve probably not seen it in a while.

I`ll double check whether it`s the dual core or single athlon is the other pc doing it, if it`s the single, then it`s all solved.
