Your History

As some people may have not read my last thread, which was about the birth of computing, I thought it may be interesting to see what other peoples History's of Computing were. I'm not asking for in depth personal profiles, I'm talking simple chronological order of computers/consoles owned from first to current, not really interested in specs just what u owned.

Heres mine

Atari 2600

C16+4

Dragon 32 (The Only Welsh Computer EVER)

C64, ZX 128 Spectrum, Atari CPC464 (green screen)

Sega Master System

NES

Mega Drive/ SNES / Game Gear / Atari Lynx / Gameboy / A500 (all roughly the same time 1992 -1995)

A1200

386 (25Mhz WOW)

486 DX2 66

Playstation 1 / N64

Pentium 166

Pentium 333

Pentium 550

Athlon 3200 (and Geforce 256 Anhilator)

Xbox

Athlon 4800 939 (x1950)

PSP

PS2 Slimline (mrs likes final fantasy)

Current PC

PLEASE NOTE...this is rough from recolection...Ive slept some..I dont want any cry babys saying my chronological order is not right...because I know it isnt....its just rough and i'm pretty sure ive forgot some...and I cant be bothered listing every piece of hardware ive ever owned..if I did it would be at least a 100 pages long... Just think it will be interesting to see...I'm sure there some woeful tales of Jaguar Owners (just like my A1200 incident)...maybe I'm just a sad old fart who likes remembering yesteryear (Also I found Fantasy Zone on my Master System Emulator today and have been playing it for 6 hours none stop, zone 9 still eludes me) :D

"Dumb Terminal" (screen with a keyboard that did nothing)

Atari ST 520FM

IBM PS2 386

Compaq 486 DX2

Commodore Amiga 500

Commodore Amiga 1200

Pentium 1, 2, 3 & 4 Rigs

AMD Skt A (Duron & XP)

AMD X2 4800 (Skt 939)

Core 2 Duo E6600

My current gaming rig is a Core 2 Duo E8400, I also have a media centre PC which has the AMD X2 4800 in it now. I have had a few consoles (bat and ball?, mega drive, playstation Xbox) but never bothered with them much. My rigs at work are all P4's and work a treat so there's been no need to upgrade yet.

Cheers,

Stu

Actually looking at PP's I forgot my 286, never used it though...i swapped my c64 for it...but it wasnt until the wapping 512K svga card of the 386 that I actually started using a pc...until my bro managed to get a full piece of toast in the 5 1/4 floppy drive (yes they were occasionally used)...things went a bit buttered up at that point....till i got me 486 with 1mb and we started networkingmachines to play doom multiplayer...roughly 1992...oh and netscape was preferred internet browser...sorry ive just swallowed a cobweb delving deep in the depths of my mind (cough cough)

I noticed Bung had a plus 4 wahay...the first home computer under £99...I remember the marketing campaigns....surely "cheap" does not always mean "economical"...it took an hour to load things and only if your tape was in perfect condition and the earth was at an exact point during its rotation, otherwise you would get the fatal "Run error : 1207," which meant "youve waited an hour but its mytime of the month so feck off",... remember being addicted to a game called "punch & Judy" probably the first platform game I ever played....got to the last level...tape ran out....I think they never thought someone was sad enough to sit through over 28 hours of load times for 30 mins of play...and so used 60 min tapes :D ... wouldnt surprise me..

one more thing did no one other then me own the welsh's best computer (or only) the dragon 32...has anyone even seen one...it came with an analogue joystick...and there was a cartridge slot on the back that you could actually run 2600 games off...what a beast

why so many machines ionicle? kept killing them or something?

I didnt keep killing them THEY kept dying :p

but seriously

i'd either sell it off, and buy summet better

or it'd die, and i'd throw somthing together out of spare parts

or i'd get bored of it and sell it off, and built a new one for summet to do

i wanted to get experience with a lot of platforms, and i did manage that atleast...

and my predictions were right, amd are far more stable across the board.... lol

intel systems kept dying for various reasons, from overheating, to a bad overclock, to just instability at stock..

Anyone play Rodland on the Spectrum?? That was possibly my favourite game at the time. Took best part of an hour to load but it was 2 player so me and ma dad used to play it.

I didnt realize this was a console, handheld history too. K will update.

AMD 64 (skt 754) 3200 + 6800GT (DFI NF4Ultra LP board)
Hey Kemp DFI didnt make an nF4 Ultra LP board for 754. nF4 Ultra was for 939 and PCI-E. Your probably thinking nF3 250gb 754 with AGP.

Thats all my machine history. probably forgot things. Haven't included Server and work machine. Only gaming rig.
