I replaced my ELSA 7800GT by a XFX 8600GTS in my watercooled xPC.

Here are a few pics and a comparison between the scores of my previous 7800GT and the new 8600GTS in 3DMarck2006

I took the standard XTX 8600GTS at 675MHz, not the XXX version OCed at 730MHz

the 2 cards side by side, one excellent thing is that the 8600GTS is smaller than the 7800GT thus it fits even better in the xPC

After I stripped the fan on the 8600GTS (voided the warranty, but don't care much about that)

Back in place in the xPC

Pretty good improvement and I think I ran the test on my 7800GT at 1024x768 while I ran the test at 1280x1024 with the 8600GTS.

As for the temp, they seem to be slightly lower than with my 7800GT even if I just reapplied the AS5

Something`s not right here, or I am confudled.

I got 3dM06 score 3563 off a 3800x2 @ 2.5 + 7600GT (611/1.56) friday.

Does this suggest that replacing the 7600 would produce a score around 4800 ?

I would have thought me changing out the 3800x2 for an Intel c2d would give it the same boost.

and here is the score of the 8600GTS running at 1024x768:

Basically 2000 more than with the 7800GT!

@Rastalovich: Well nothing has changed in my system except the video card so I suppose that replacing your 7600GT by a 8600GTS would drastically improve your score too!

Also Rstalovich, I am not sure, but i think the x2 beats the PD 930, may have some influence on the score...

Woaw I can now play all my games in 1280x1024, with max details etc... and yet smooth and fast without lag in the frame rate while with my 7800GT I could only play at 1024x768... FarCry, Stalker etc...

And it is damn cool card, 38/39C idle and 44/45C after 2 hours of FarCry! I was even surprised to see the card temp remained at 40C during the 3DMark2006 test!

Totally satisfied with the upgrade I must say :)

Hey youpla, if your from the USA/Canada, and register your card within the first 30 days of purchasing it. XFX's warranty now supports "Modding" your video card, volt mod/replacing heatsink/WAtercooling etc..

Pretty good IMO

Where did you find this out? I need too read some T&Cs.

Thats worth the extra cash over the other manufactures.

Edit: And hope they extend it too the UK...
