XP x64 activation

I bought it ages ago and have never had any problems with any thing. I did one of my quarterly re-installs (gets startup back to full speed) and everything is running happily again. Problem is that the usual activation comes up to say "activate me" and I click it and BAM! Nothing happens. No window not even a new connection occurs, no new processes or even fluctuations in memory (out of the usual resource changes). I cannot ring the activation hotline thing because it doesn't even give me the number.

I have as you can guess monitored processes, memory allocation, network connections during trying to actiavte and nothing is happening. Its a clean install (which in then restore my programs onto) with no problems apparently. I have tried the various shortcuts from the menus and the pop-up for it they do nothing. I have even tried the oobe/msoobe command with and without /a and still get nothing.

It seems as though whatever I try does nothing so something must be squiff that I cannot find during normal use. I've tried using x64 registry stuff to assess the registry for errors but they were absolute rubbish.

The worst part of all of it is Microsoft want at least £40 to help me.

Hmm, so it`s the actual running of the activation software that is the issue ?

If so I`d probably try downloading something from m$, like wmp11??, that would want to check if u were valid b4 it lets u, and see if that online validation thing kicks anything off.

Unfortunately you typings were slower than my thoughts and after DLing a few MS vaildation things which went through no problems it persisted so I reformated.

Got it down to an art now :D Takes one day for all updates, programs and settings to be done. 138Gb worth of it :D

Tis all gone I stumped my old registry in and got the problem back so the problem is defintely in the registry.
