XP Pro & DirectX 10 Mod

Has anyone else tried the DX 10 for XP mod by the Alky Project? (couldn't find an existing thread for this)

It shows up up in DXDIAG as version 10 after applying it but it didn't give me the option of testing DX 10 3d interfaces.

I'm giving it a go at the mo. Games still work OK and look a little better or is it just my imagination? :smileysho

I dont see what peoples problem is with Vista, it runs alot better than XP here aslong as you upgrade to 4gb of RAM.

Some of us dont have the funds to get 4gig or upgrade so we can buy cheap 2x2gig set of DDR2.

It's running perfectly fine on 2GB here, 4GB is not needed at all. Most people that say Vista doesn't work for them, simply haven't tried it in a long while and are still basing their opinions on the experience they had when they first gave Vista a shot, and are reluctant to give it a much deserving second chance.

Ive tried it 3 times since december. 32bit and 64. On my rig right now its a difference of 10-15fps and about 2000 3dmarks. I like my 9077 3dmarks in 06 @ 1440x900. I dont get that in Vista.

And i miss EAX like hell, alchemy just is a pile of cr@p.

As also said it is also a big chunk slower in 3dmark and games :(

Have you tried stream lining vista.. just turn everything off you dont use.. mine runs exactly the same in games.. At the beginning it was slower, but now using the newer drivers everything works really well.

I have done everything human;y possable to get Vista as small and as quick as I can.

But it just comes down to its poorly programed kernel.

My miuns 2000 3dmarks and about 10-15fps was an extremely flattend version of Vista X64. I never leave any of M$ BS in Windows when i use it. I also had the latest drivers and even tried the latest Omega drivers.

Here ya go

It is also the way you interupt the OS.

Hard to explain.

But I have gotten used to XP over the years and have it just the way I like it. Very small and very very quick.

I try Vista and it goes down the toilet. I have tried Vista at least 5 times now, each time I move back to XP.

The only reason I would want Vista is for DX10.. but now this little tweak has it on XP. Im sorted. :)

Nobody has yet to confirm DX10 games running in DX10 though with XP yet so dont get your hopes up. It could just be a "hack" like it says and it just "shows" as DX10 under XP without the functionality or DLLs.

Yup, thats the only reason i went to vista was for the dx10. However since nothing really challenges my pc atm (apart from crysis) i dont think going back to xp is worth the effort.

I ran Windows update and it reported nothing needed updating (or downgrading). Crysis looks great but then I don't have SLI so it auto detects the graphics all to high. DXdiag and Everest both report DX10 as being present.

I have nothing against Vista, just didn't see it offering me anything more, other than DX10. If you've already got it, why go back (spooky, Neo just said I can't go back on the TV as I typed that).

The patches do include dlls by the way.

One interesting change is the white box in fullscreen mode and the 3d boxes in dxdiag run extremely(!!) fast, but still don't let me test the DX10 interfaces.
