XP or 7 for this laptop

There is this laptop Toshiba

Intel Atom CPU N270 1.60GHz
Ram 1GB
Card Intel GMA 950

Which OP should I install for faster response, Win XP or Win 7 ?
 
Slower? the owner already complains for delays.
Maybe I should fix some settings and cleaning?
Can u make suggestions?
For examble, how much virtual memory?

PS. Laptop had XP by default.

W7 running slower? Well tbf i guess the Laptop is literally running the barebone system requirements. Also the laptop is very very low spec so really shouldn't expect much out of it from any MS OS.

One way to increase the speed if possible is to upgrade the ram/CPU(if not soldered)/ and HDD to something much faster.
Considering the customer only has 1Gb of ram. He/she may want to spend some money to upgrade to about 4GB(no higher as 32bit OS won't read it) and increase the HDD speed/cache.
 
The (already minimal) support for windows XP is running out soon, so I would strongly advice against installing it on any machine any more. Doesn't run win7 put linux on it, else use win7 or win8 (if you really want to).

I somewhere read a statement of a security expert, that a soon as there are no more security updates it's going to be a free for all.

Astonishingly a lot of buisnesses and Institutions are still running XP.
 
Everyone is getting rid of XP machines due to the support running out on the 16th of April. Don't put XP on it.

I dont say that W7 running slower. Maybe its the low requirements or bad settings or warms. The question is, a low spec laptop like this runs faster with XP or 7? I mean, win7 needs better spec?

So, u suggest to get another 3GB or ram?

The user doesnt really bother about that, the only job does all day is surfing in Facebook:lol:
 
Adding ram will help in speed yes. W7 requires a slightly higher spec but overall it does perform better do to enhancements in software and such.

I would recommend getting a newer laptop though. Though its up to the user.

Pretty sure thats a first generation netbook... aka the slowest computer known to man. Put linux on it, or put windows 7 on it and enjoy the lovely lag. Don't even consider the possibility of XP. It's almost 15 years old and its about time it died, Microsoft also thinks so! they are stopping official support of it in a few months.

Replace laptop is out of the question.
Someone told me that adding more ram wont help and its better to get a faster cpu or disk. Do u agree?

Its pointless. You can't really do anything to it to improve the performance.

Adding ram will help multitasking and prevent from slowing down and such. Won't necessarily speed it up. A faster HDD will make a big difference or a SSD(even bigger).

If you can upgrade the CPU then it may be very hard to find a compatible CPU let alone get a hold of one. So probably not worth the hassle and at that point mine as well get a new laptop(as you said out of the question, but just saying) and get far better performance and such.

A ram/drive upgrade will help with multitasking and load times though if that is what the user wants.

How can a disk be faster, if its not ssd?
Why it is hard to get a new cpu? In laptops the sockets are too many?
The user wants for a window to open quickly and not after 2 hours:p
So, do u suggest to get a faster cpu or add more ram?
