This rig has totally randomly stopped loading into windows. The windows loading screen appears, then when you expect the desktop appears nothing happens. The light on the monitor stays green. but the screen remains black.

oop, bout to overheat......

Back! Hmmm, I can get into safe mode so am going to try the system restore from a previous point. Its about a week ago though - I hope this thing actually works :)

Nah, u were lucky then! ;)

Mine is still not working. I'm going with it being a driver issue, as I have re-seated my hardware. Gonna try driver cleaner now, hopefully that'll sort it....

I don't understand why it has done this totally randomly, I blantantly didn't change any settings or anything! Fookin computers :(

Okay peeps, it boots fine when I unistall the nVIDIA drivers. I re-install them (77.72) and it does not work again! I think this is why it works in safe mode because the drivers are not used.

This system was working fine yesterday!

What is going on?

Okay, got it sorted. Twas a complicated one...

When the drivers aren't loaded on a 6800 the core voltage remains low, hence why the card worked in safe mode. However when trying to boot into normal windows overvolt protection would kick in keeping the screen blank.

For some reason the trimmer must have worn in, and self adjusted itself on the core! I had to re-trim it within the boundarys, then it all booted fine, heh!

What a waste of a day!

Thats a strange problem you had there. Thanks for sharing how you resolved it though as i am sure someone will come across the same problem at some point.

At least you have sort it now anyway :D
