XFX Double D Radeon HD 7870 Problem

Hi Guys,

I purchased the above graphic card, to run in my system, I have put the specs below:

CPU - Intel i5-3570K
Mobo - Asus P88Z77-V (Latest bios)
16gb Mushkin memory (1600 mhz)
Antec 750w TruPower Modular PSU
OCZ SSD (O/S)

I was running Win8 Enterprise 64bit, I installed the graphics card, booted up fine, but when I install the latest 64bit drivers from AMD (13-4_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql), as soon as the software installed the display driver, I received a BSOD, non page fault error.

I then tried a fresh install of Win8 Pro 64bit, the install would bomb out as soon as it started installing devices, I finally managed to get booted, but using the basic display driver. But as soon a I try and upgrade the gcard driver, I get a BSOD again.

I then thought that the problem was with Win8, so decided to try an install of Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit, as I already had it on a bootable USB, o/s installed fine, I then downloaded the 32 bit drivers, installed them, and everything was working fine :)

Because a 32 bit o/s is no good to me, I then decided to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I installed the o/s, but again as soon as I install the drivers I get a BSOD. I have tried several different versions of the drivers from the AMD website, both 32 bit or 64 bit but none seem to help. I am currently running Win7 Ultimate 64bit, but on the basic display drivers.

The same 64bit drivers also seem to run fine with my old 4870, on the 64 bit o/s's.

Any idea's, kind of pulling my hair out with this one, and don't have that much left :(

Have you tried it with a old hdd or something. Might be the SSD at fault as it's ocz. Have you cleared the cmos aswell? Worth trying it to rule it out. Also try with just 1 stick of memory installed.

Many thanks for the reply, yes I have tried a basic install on a normal SATA HDD, with just one stick of RAM installed. I have also updated the bios to the latest version, so cleared CMOS during flashing, still the same results.

Not sure why it works on 32bit windows but not 64 bit :(

Have you tried researching the bsod code it gives you when it does it?
Yes but its just a generic fault_in non paged area, which basically could mean anything, it indicates memory, but I have run memtest and everything checks out.

Plus with a memory fault, or any hardware fault I would expect the same issues in the 32bit operating systems.

Really has me baffled, I have raised a ticket with XFX support, and may need to raise something with the guys from Aria as well :(

Please help same problem goin mad

This problem seems to be everywhere and no fixes. Can't understand how AMD don't know about this.

Have you solved the problem?

Please, please, please am going mad 5 solid days

Am installing windows 7 32bit

Please help

Cheers

Have you also convent the bios to the windows 8 file, it not. That can make some problem, i have one 7950 in my rig right now, and waiting on the next to come monday. And there was a problem whit windows 8 and if you not have convent the bios to windows 8 mode.

Hope this help, if not i will go more into the problem i was in.

Hello there!
I've the same problem with drivers on x64 systems.
I'm still waiting for answer of XFX support, It feels like many customers have this problem,so maybe we should write some petition to XFX and AMD to make 'em fix this issue with special driver for this model or something?

not trying to be rude but I doubt xfx will reply. Their customer service is poor to say the least :l. I don't have any issues with my 'card and the drivers at all. Maybe download the driver on the disk that came with the 'card and use that. it's old but should work.

What are your pc specs? There must be some sort of link between all your systems to cause the fault. It'd be that or xfx skipped quality control.

My rig:
Intel Q6600
Gigabyte EP35-DS3P
4xKingston PC2-64002Gb(now on x86 only two slots active)
Toughpower 650W.

I've already tried with Win7 x64,Win8 x64,Win 8.1 x64 and even Win XP x64!
everywhere same result,it seems like this GCard not supports x64 system:(

It runs great without any error on win7 x86 win8 x86

I know there has in the past been a small batch of XFX cards suffer with bad VRAM & Controllers which fail to engage in 64bit OSs, this definitely sounds like it could be one of the bad batches. While your running a 32bit OS run some diagnostics on your VRAM see if it shows any abnormalities in read/write states use Video Memory Stress Test. Also have you tried using a older driver release?
