Xeon 3070 @ 3.6Ghz with only 1.3vcore!

Well I finally changed my XBX2's BIOS back to an earlier revision which I was told to be the best, and it certainly seems that way!

Before changing to this older BIOS I wasn't able to post at anything above 3.4ghz and couldn't get my core voltage up from 1.2v. Anyhow, with the new BIOS it's got me cruisin' right along at 3.6ghz with a measily 1.3vcore, that's friggin' amazing in my book! It's almost tempting me to get a bigger cooler (thinks CM Gemini :D) and slap a pair of 800RPM S-Flex's on it and then go for 4+ghz on air.

Xeon's definitely seemed to be binned better than the C2D's, at least in this particular instance!

I shall continue tweaking tonight and see if I can't pull 3.8ghz out of a hat with my small little Zalman cooler.

Nice one Fraggles. What did the Xeon set you back?

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think it was around $500.

@Kemp: Very very possibly, and TBH I don't know if 1.3 is the lowest it will run @ 3.6, there's a possibility I could get it to run stable at 1.25 or 1.275 :)

Tonight I am definitely going to spend some time figuring out why I get a BSOD on Windows load at 3.8ghz no matter what my settings are...

On my C2D's it seems they get to a certain OC then need a tonne of volts to go higher.

Anyway I think that you should see if this is getting close to a record...mebbe you're very lucky with the 1337 stepping of those babies :D

I've tried @ 1.45vcore and no luck... I can't imagine it needing THAT much more voltage for an extra 200mhz.

You'll be surprised. With my C2D I hit a brick wall at 3.6ghz, then to go any higher I need 1.6v to get to 3.8ghz and 1.65v to get past that.

But damn dude, I rock the 3.6 @ 1.3vcore, that would just be nuckin' futz to need that much more voltage!

Maybe, just maybe I'll keep it at 3.6 and be a happy Fraggerz.

I would. U dont wanna kill that baby if you get get a comfy 3.6ghz on that low vcore.

Very very true. And then I can keep the Zalman and not have to futz with it. Good thinkin' Jim!

I agree mate, best to keep it happy running low and smooth :)

If I've learned anything from my time at OC3D - it's that Frag never takes the safe/cheap/easy option.

What's changed now? :(
