Xbox 360 Update for 17/11/09

If its mandatory, I think there will be more in it than whats stated.

Socially popular stuff in the headline is probably a carrot.

I think it's all to do with social networking and the new Sky film screening service their starting is'nt it? I know they had to update the dashboard for people to get the new services.

Personally I'm with sammytomjohn, I like to play games on the 360, or post on forums, but I have no desire to use Facebook or Twitter to help someone steal my identity, or behave like a Jerry Springer candidate and put my life on public view!

Even If you like that stuff, it has no place on Consoles and being forced to have it. No wonder they now make a 250gb hard drive for it, they need the extra storage for all their sh1te bloatware.

I'm enjoying the Sky Player on the 360, not many live channels but it gives me a chance to watch some stuff on my 360 while parents are watching some crap on the TV downstairs.

I think it's a further tightening of the firmware checking. Over a million users banned since the release of MW2. So they might be adding extra checks.

Isn't it very much the case these days that companies more and more seem to give u 'some' of what u want, but massively things they want/need u to have.

Think iTunes started the downfall on the scale of which it is now for media things. Companies saw this, saw people swallow it in it's simpler form (which isn't as bad as it is today) and figured - we should have some of that.

Preferred the days where - here's the device - u bought it, we'll update firmware and issues - but that's it. U want a, b or c, then it's ur choice to have it.

Now it's, take the firmware, that u have to have, oh and here's some other corporate stuff.

I hope it lives up to your expectations then Toxcity.

It won't make any difference to me as my box was one of the millions worldwide that got banned this time.

:o, why can't we have a WEB BROWSER?!!! I know it opens up to vulnerabilities but with the RROD I think that claims more victims. If Sony and Nintendo can do it why cant Microsoft?

Most of the time I want to quickly check online for some hints or location of them damn skull on Halo. So for that I need to check using my computer, but what if I didn't have a router? I would have to switch my Ethernet from my modem. Pointless and a lengthy process.

Really annoys me after all this time, it's something simple to make, infact I could do it myself, and I don't consider myself a programmer tbh.

It's not that "simple" though is it. You have a closed platform. You'll need all the plugins available else people will moan (flash etc). that means opening it up to all those 3rd party people.

Yeah it is quite simple Nathan, they're a company that earns BILLIONS. They have some of the best programmers in the world working for them, there is no excuse. Shocking when home hackers seem to do a better job than a big company.

Well if they spent more time on making a solid browser for it then we wouldn't have these problems, hopefully ever.

I still want a browser:yumyum:

your just looking at it from a pure technical point of view, completely missing stratigic aspects etc.

I'm sure they could do it easily from a technicial point of view.

That kinda made me cringe.

It's very tough to argue with. OS' aren't exactly the worlds easiest things to code and Win7 is almost bulletproof. Office is the world standard. The 360s dashboard has influenced most modern consoles. Those issues that do arise are patched, which is more than can be said for most companies.

Or are you just remembering the joys of Windows ME and the fun of IE6?

Nah, I'm thinking of a 30g footprint and weekly patches and fixes (or 2nd tuesday for the majority) when we're the best.

Whilst looking at other camps that arguably do the same thing for a fraction of it. And can look just as shiney. Infact the inspiration for Win7 (Vista with fixes).

AND, the backbone of the OS is - still to this day, Windows 3.1 w/ 8.3.

Agreed with Rast. Whilst MS might have some awesome GUI designers (albeit influenced by OSX), the base code of the OS has been the same fior years and the file storage system is totally archaic.

But hell, it's what the users are used to.

1stly it signifies their commintment to the amd platform is strong, whilst including my 2nd favor - which is, new tech for the Intel ranges is being quickly supplied on the amd side of things which gives me the +ve feeling about the mobos.
