Seems a little unfair by the thread title, but how much of a performance difference is there to be between these two, bareing in mind the price also:

Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800, Socket 775, 2.93 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 2x 2MB Cache, Retail - £562.83

Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600, 775, 2.40 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache, Retail *Game Included* - £316.08

.. and let`s say u upped the Q6600 to 2.93GHz.

These prices just crazy cos the one is toward the top of it`s range ? and the other lower cos it`s toward the opposite end of it`s range ?

As a major Intel n00ble, will the Q6600 spank the crap out of the X6800 at the same clock cos of it`s 8m ? I dunno - I`m looking for answers!

well tbh an c2d e6600 clocked at 3 ghz has more or less performance than the X6800 , bear in mind the X has unlocked multi

Not entirely sure what`s going on, but I think they`re clearing Intel stuff this week or something.

Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600, 775, 2.40 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache, Retail *Game Included* - £316.08

Is now Today £285.51.

x6800 is a rip off atm BUT mid July Intel cut prices again on top end cpu's...

Also, the x6800, e6700, e6600 etc etc die a death in November so prepare for uber cheapness on those models then. Although penryn will be out then and you know you are going to want one...

Out of the two you mention want to get the q6600, as you said yourself up it to 2.9/3.0 and 4 cores of goodness (although hardly anything will use them lol)

oo oo I`m in the market during that window :)

I would wait until the x6850 is avaliable for $266. From the reviews on other sites it is awesome. Plus is looks to be an oc'ing beast.
