Hey guys, i have not been on here for a few months mainly due to beaing busy and lack of ideas to upgrade even tho i don't need to, i have searched for a few pages but couldn't find anything so apologies if there was a similar thread.

I have been thinking of upgrading my mainbord and cpu and maybe a new case along with someone water cooling, oh and probably will get a GTX 570 aswell, my current set up is I7 950 @ 4GHZ (air cooled) with asus p6x58d-e for my mainbord, i was thinking about a 2600k and overclocking it to 5GHZ just for a project because i am bored with my current set up. Is is worth upgrading i saw there was problems with some of the mobo's for the new processors any thoughts you guys have will be very much apreciated.

Well the successor to X58 is about to come out, if you can wait, you may as well

GTX 570 is good though

All the mobo issues were fixed, hence the "B3" badges, the chipsets to get are P67 or Z68 (Z68 has IGP which can help for encoding, also the SSD cache, but not much else over the P67).

Oh wow, i didn't know that i may wait and see what its like im in no rush to buy anyway just wanted a little project.

Yeah, its the LGA 2011 socket, X79 chipset, as opposed to LGA 1366 socket, X58 chipset.

IMO if you have a good budget, then its the way to go, but if your budget is lower, then LGA 1155 (i5-2500K or i7-2600K) is better

The LGA 2011/X79 CPUs are called Sandy Bridge E, on 32nm, coming out in Q3 of this year.
