X2 core disabling

Heyo! Quick question about these... from reading around the net on these, I kinda recall seeing ppl state that the cores clock to different speeds. I convinced myself that this means one core can be disabled. This was backed up by Fab @ DPC who forgot to use the CPU drivers to enable the 2nd core, so he was running single-core.

What I`m getting at is... can an X2 have one of the cores disabled, and letting the 2nd be used for higher single-core overclocks due to the lower heat output? Thus giving high clocks for SuperPi etc, and dual-core capabilities to rock CPC?

Cheers!

Good question - although I can't help, I'd be more than interested to know.

Im not sure that you can, just from the fact that if you could im sure i would have heard more of the idea.

Would be cool if you could though, let us know if you find out anything more concrete.

I'm pretty sure, although not certain, that you can't disable one of the cores.

In my mind the coolest thing to be able to do would be to overclock each core individually.

General opinion on XS appears to sway towards it not being possible. They didnt understand why I wanted to try it anyway, but their lack of understanding of my intentions doesnt change the answer.

Another nice idea gets neatly filed away in the "Our Survey says...EH-ER" folder

i doubt you could, i expect if the second core was disabled it meant an older bios meaning it only detected the single core. however if it were possible to disable the second core wouldnt it be one of those things which you do wiht a 2b pencil?

A Pencil mod wouldnt be ideal... I was hoping for saomething fast and easy to switch between CPC, SuperPi, 3Dmark etc etc....

It never worked for me, I swear it was a conspiracy ;) :(

Taking off a Mach whenever we needed the 2nd core would be a pain anyway.
