x2 4200 2.2ghz?

I've just seen an auction on ebay for the above processor - however in the auction it states 2 x 2.2ghz - meaning that each of the cores runs at 2.2ghz...is this right? If not is it 2 x 1.1ghz?

Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like that :) You're only getting the raw processing power of 2.2ghz. But, it is going to feel a lot faster than 2.2 when doing a lot of multitasking because instead of splitting the processing power needed among say 4 programs from a single 2.2ghz core it gets to divide it amongst two 2.2ghz cores which = HUGE performance / speed gain. Single core = 2.2ghz / 4 programs = approx 550mhz per program if they all were fighting for 100% usage. Now with a dual core u can divide that by 4.4ghz which = 1.1ghz per program assuming each program was fighting for 100% usage.

But, you'll never notice the difference if ur a gamer or if u just don't multi-task.

you will notice the difference in the future with this CPU, as more games will be utilizing both cores. Even one core of the 4200+ is ample for games right now. But unfortunatly the difference is pretty minimal between an athlon64 4000+ and a dual core 4200+ :)

Time for another brilliant Frag speach I suppose ;)

Prior to Core 2 and the newer mobile Pentiums from Intel, they all ran with lower operation counts per clock cycle. AMD processors on the other hand run at higher operations per clock cycle. This means that AMD proccies can run at lower clock speeds and still complete just as many operations as a Pentium running at a higher clock speed. This has changed for Intel with the new Core 2's however. I haven't checked the exact specs on the operations per clock cycle on them but I think that it's even higher than the Athlon 64's, thus the drastic clock speed reduction from Pentium to Core. Efficiency at its best :)
 
LIES! AMD cpu's are made from magical 1337 fairy atoms whereas the old intels were made from old stale biscuits. frag is holding back the truth.

I would have to agree with the statement that older intels were made from old stale biscuits, rofl. Ok back on topic folks.
 
Tox are you going to overclock your dual core? Im thinking about doing it to mine, do both cores work hard when your playing games? or does one go to sleep while the other slaves away?
