Writing CVs

Hello!

I'm just starting to re-write my CV as im on the hunt for another job. As i know this forum has a fair few younger members that might not have a CV at all, thought it would be nice and helpful to document peoples tips and thoughts on the matter.

here are a few tips from me;

Make your points concisely.

-You should use the minimum amount of words to make the maximum impact.

Make sure the CV is fairly short

-Many people recommend a one side CV. Bear in mind an employer can quickly lose interest.

Keep rewriting until you are satisfied.

-Once satisfied, show it to someone with whom you trust.

Good thing today is to keep it on ur pc. Not so much to keep looking at it and messing with it, but every significant thing u do, employment-wize can be added to it. Without my CV, if u asked me about specific grades/schooling - I'd not remember.

- keep mine to 1 A4 page.

- try not to waffle, points are good.

I know that I am still young, but I have 2 CV's one that I can hand out which is 2 pages, and the other which is much fuller (well 3 pages at the moment) which I can give to the employer when I meet them in person.

1 page CV. never heard of that before.

All ways has 2 page cv. If you going to talk about cv.s then post them up with the vital info missing such as name address ect ect.. That would be of more help.

Erm I need about 5 pages for mine even if I cut all the blah out of it :(

Maybe next time I need to use my CV i'll just draw a picture of a spider and ask if that will do instead.

Meh ur writing essays :p

I manage to get all my work history, qualifications, experience, certifications, personal stuff.

All within the page and all ledgable.

Last thing I want when thinking about employing Jim (amoungst 50 others) is a story about spiders and servers. Just want to know the basic facts about him, the rest I can judge when I might choose to see him.

Unless of course I'm going for a web admin job *boom boom*

Im currently updating mine now. I think 2 pages is about right. Ive filled up one and half just with previous jobs, education and contact details. Wrote a little profile sort of thing in the space left, just a brief paragraph (5 lines) about what Im intrested in and looking for in a job etc. But yea, try to keep it brief, straight to the point and no need to waffle on or the employer will just get bored reading it!

Don't fill it up with too much about previous jobs unless they are relevant, tailor it to the job you are applying for.

there are bound to be some good tips on you tube about this subject seems you can get everything on there these days :)
